  • Jeez, what should I say...

I am bi-polar, have not been on meds in months and am about to lose it... and I don't mean weight. It's been three days since I decided to do something about my weight and I am now just to the point of "Screw this, I'm just not going to eat anything."...

Anyways, someone said I should check out this part of the forums... so there... I did...
  • Go see your doctor. Taking medications when you are bipolar is a necessity. I honestly don't think anything on this forum will help you overcome what you are feeling.
  • My nurse practitioner won't do **** to get me medicated... she wants me to go elsewhere... "It's not my expertise." My ***.
  • I have friends who are bipolar and they find that thet MUST remain on meds. Not doing so can be disastrous. See a doctor and get proper evaluation and get back on meds. and remember that we can not give medical advice. It is better to go to the experts,
  • Find a new doctor? Your NP may not be experienced in Bipolar Disorder and therefore doesn't feel comfortable just prescribing a medicine that may or may not work for you. You really need to find someone that is experienced with the disorder - psychiatrist perhaps?
  • That's the problem. She says that i need a psychiatrist and the place where I signed up to get one says that my NP needs to do it and it's like... WTH? If you aren't going to help me and my NP isn't going to help me, where else do I have to go when that's the only place left that takes my insurance?
  • Arthwen;
You need to ask the right questions when you see your NP. For instance -if she can't provide the medical help you need, then you need to ask her where you can get it from. Same with the place you signed up for a psychiatrist. You may need to see someone else if you don't get satisfactory service.

You also need food to live. Stopping eating is not a wise option. Search around the boards for some plans and ideas that are suitable to your needs.

Finally; have a hug . I hope you can find the help that you need. Be good to yourself.

  • Oh... I don't feel that way anymore... But I did ask them that...

I ask my NP where to go and she says Lifeworks NW... I asked Lifeworks NW where to go and they said to your NP... That's why I'm all WTH?
  • Arthwen, maybe you have already done so but you could always try to ask to speak to your NP's supervisor regarding this run-around you've been getting. Let them know that it's very important that you that you go back on your meds and that you need help finding out the proper procedure to do so.

Also, do you have a family member or friend that could help you w/ this problem? If so, you should reach out to them for help.

As far as weight loss goes, this is the best place on the web for support, so I'm glad you found us! I'm also glad that you decided not to stop eating! Just try eating a little less and moving a little more than you have been. Your weight loss might not be as fast as you'd like, and you probably will have slip-ups, but the most important thing is that you make progress...whether it's 1 lb. a week or 3, or even that you didn't gain or lose anything, it's all progress.

Good luck with everything. Let us know how it all turns out.
  • There must be another physician in Portland,Oregon. What is the reason you want to stay with medical people who don't seem to want to help you ?
  • Because she is the only one I know of that takes my insurance...
  • you also might just need a referral. i would definitely talk to the head of nurse practitioners and get it straightened out. there are also free clinics available (and i'm sure in Portland they would have some) that can give referrals to other doctors or even write you a prescription.
  • No... i just need to go to my appointment with Lifeworks NW tomorrow morning and tell them what my NP said. She said that if they still refuse that I can go to a higher power after that... so I hope that me saying that my NP said I need a psychiatrist from them might get me one...
  • Contact your insurance and see what physicians are available in your area.
  • I just might do that...
