SB friendly BBQ sauce?

  • Before we started the SBD, my sweetie and I ate barbeque chicken a lot. Like a LOT. Specifically, we used a lot of Sweet Baby Ray's sauce... lately we are struggling to stay on the diet and I'm feeling like replacements for old favorites would help. Does anyone know a good SB friendly barbeque sauce that is fairly thick and sweet? Either a product or a recipe would do, we'll probably use it in the slow cooker (so aspartame sweetened is probably not so good, since it doesn't cook well).
  • You can make a nice, thick sauce by adding 1 cup of NSA ketchup to a 12 oz. can of diet cola, bring it to a boil, then let it simmer until it reduces to the consistency you want. I add lots of onions and sometimes peppers and mushrooms to it, too. I borrowed this idea from the recipe for Cola Chicken that's posted in our recipes board.
  • And here's a recipe if you want to make your own.
  • I don't know if Kraft still makes it but they do make one with the South Beach Logo that is made with Splenda. I think one of the grocery chains in Dallas sells it so I buy a couple of bottles when I find it. We just don't use it a whole lot.
  • I have the KC Masterpiece brand. I found it at Walmart so I bought up several jars. It's labeled Low Calorie Classic Brand (only 10 calories per serving). It contains Splenda and Ace K for sweeteners.

Yes I am a bbq fanatic so I went searching! I have found that Walden's bbq sauce is GROSS - screams artificial. I have never been able to find the Kraft one that is out there. Netrition.com does carry KC Masterpiece (and a couple others) so you may want to check that out if you don't want to make your own - 4.95 shipping regardless of size of order.
