So I scheduled a breast enhancement consultation...

I've never been large - I was a "31 Almost A" in Playtex Just My size in high school, and they were a little loose on me. My grandmother worked for Playtex so that was the only brand we ever wore as she got the irregulars at a discount. Every Christmas all the girls got a "goodie box" of bras, panties and socks... I remember the year I was 15 my grandmother yells from across the room as I'm opening my box "Shanny, they didn't have any of those "Almost A" this time so I got you a smaller band with a "Nearly B". Let me know if they are too big honey and maybe I can find some of the larger training bras" in her booming, carry across a football field, voice. I turned fifteen shades of red and actually dropped the box on the floor. The room went dead quiet until one of my uncle's started snickering, then my aunt says "you know, you can buy some bigger ones nowadays, get some like mine..." Like I already wasn't a mess of insecurity at 15! They teased me about that until I was in college... Everyone else in the family was C or higher except for me and my mother, who were both "Almost A".

At my high weight I was a 36C. Today at my custom bra fitting I was a 31AAA. What the heck is an AAA? A little TMI, my breasts are all wrinkly like I filled a baggie with water and then squeezed most of it out through a hole in the corner. I laid them one at a time on my food scale yesterday (washed it afterwards, yes! ) and while I know it isn't fully accurate since I was standing over it, each one weighed in at about 6 ounces.

I'm having a hard time finding shirts that fit, even smalls and XS are baggy in the boob area. Sweaters are fine, but anything tailored just isn't working. I wore a size 4 dress last weekend and had to put two extra pads per cup in my little bra to make the shoulders hang right.

Am I crazy to want bigger breasts? I know I haven't been at goal weight for very long, so realistically I would give myself some maintenance time before doing anything surgical. I called today because I have a friend who has used this place before and she said it could be six weeks for a consult. Well, they had a cancellation today for Monday, so I took it. I don't want to be huge, I would just like to be balanced out a little better.

Wow, I feel vain just typing this email... but, thanks for reading it and I welcome any input...

Edit - I posted this in the wrong forum and don't know how to move it...
  • There is no harm in going to the consultation. Maybe it will help calm your nerves a bit or help you make the decesion if this is what you really want. I unfortuantly have the oposite problem and am currently a 36DDD. After losing 40lbs the only thing that changed is the band size. If it makes you feel good and maybe a little more confident i say go for it. I have no shame in admitting that after i get to goal i 100% plan on getting a thigh lift, tummy tuck, breast lift, and a brazilian butt enhancement cause somehow i was blessed with a ridiculously flat behind. Good Luck!
  • Hey Shannon,

I don't think your vain. Go to the consultation and see what the doctor says. You seem to have realistic expectations and I admire you for taking this step.
  • Go for it. I don't think it's vain to want to fill out your clothes properly - any more than it's vain to want to lose weight so you look good in your clothes.

Although I gotta say the visual of you weighing your boobs on the food scale very nearly made me spit my afternoon Diet Coke onto the keyboard.

At the very least a consultation won't hurt.

And heck, I'm going to get a tummy tuck and a lift after I'm done losing all this weight, so I would be the last person to say that having surgery is vain.

  • Photo - were you not around yet for the great Breast Weight Debate?

The kitchen scale method was fairly common, actually. But many other methods were mentioned. http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=102494
  • Life is short--it's not like you want to get watermelons implanted or anything. Just enough where you feel cute and clothes feel better, right? Go for it!
  • I don't think you're vain for wanting to do this.

I'm seriously considering "mini liposuction" to get rid of the fat in my armpits. I try and smoosh it in my bra cup, but as soon as I move my arm, it all pops out. And it's not back fat--it's just in my armpits.
  • Thanks for the responses guys!

Mandalinn - thanks for the link to that thread. Somehow I missed it when I searched related posts! I'm glad to see it wasn't just me weighing them like that!

Photo - you should have seen the look on DHs face when he came in and caught me with them up on the scale. I don't know which one of us looked more surprised, him to see me doing or me at getting caught!
  • Shannon- i can picture you doing this and i really did LoL. I think i may try this when i get home and see what i come up with.
  • I say, if it makes you happy and more confident, go for it!!! not for hubby, not for anyone but YOU!

    mee too!
  • Shannon, by all means, go to the consult. It will help you make an informed decision. You aren't vain, and you deserve to look and feel GREAT now that you have lost weight.

Unfortunately, I'm like Candy - but I can say that there is hope. I'm finally down to a 34D (from a 40DDD)
  • Go for it . You may even decide it's not what you want after the meeting. I don't think you are crazy at all for wanting bigger breats, I myself may end up getting implants once I get to goal. I have small boobs too I feel your pain. Almost impossible to find a proper fitting bra. I'm probably a B but my band is so big, it's literally impossible to find a 44B. So right now I'm forced to wear a C cup, which is obviously too big.
Not fair, I always thought having big boobs was part of the package if you were fat? I got ripped off!
  • My beautiful, slim mother had breast augmentation to fill out her small size As to a 34C. She looks great!

    Check out that rack!

    homina homina!

With a small boobed mom and grand mom, my 34Ds were always a bit of a family mystery

I think they do wonderful work with implants now!
  • Shannon, I was in exactly your AAA shoes (or cup, as the case may be ) and had an augmentation a few years ago. I'm beyond thrilled with my results and am so glad I did it! No regrets, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

When I was done losing weight, I ended up with nothing but empty skin instead of breasts and was literally stuffing skin into a bra to make fake boobs. But I had been anti-implant my whole life and it took me a long, long time and a consultation with a plastic surgeon to get past the whole "vanity issue".

I made my peace with the implant issue because my goal was simply to look normal. I wasn't trying for big stripper boobs or to look hot (at my age? ) -- all I wanted was to look feminine in clothing. It sounds exactly what you're saying too -- nothing huge, just normal.

Go to the consultation and please don't feel the least bit guilty or vain.
