This thread is about PCOS and Weight Loss Support. If you have PCOS, or think you might, or know anybody that might have it, or your just curious or you just think we are totally awesome, so you just wanna chat with us, please join us!
Losing weight with PCOS is like trying to rollerskate up an icy hill. With all the wonderful lovely side effects, extra facial and body hair, skin tags, dark skin patches, weight gain, etc, etc, etc.........
PCOS Definition:
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) – A genetically-linked hormonal imbalance that prevents ovulation. PCOS also may cause overproduction of estrogen, abnormal thickening of the uterine lining, very heavy and/or irregular periods, as well as acne and facial hair. The latter are caused by an overproduction of male hormones, including testosterone. -- There are tons of info out there on the web, so if you want more info, just go to your favorite search engine (Google, Yahoo, etc) and type in PCOS. Another great site (besides this one of course for info is: Soul Cysters. Also here are a couple links for Forum Abbreviations: Basic Forum Abbreviations and the TTC/Infertility Abbreviations
So please come and join us, won't you? If you or someone you know has PCOS and you want support in WL and just general everyday support, please come and join us. You do not have to necessarily have to be TTC or not TTC. I am currently not TTC, but if you are, then that is wonderful too. If you do not have PCOS and maybe are just curious about the disease, then feel free to join us as well. Everybody is Welcome!!

Can't believe another month is gone........only 53 days, 15 hours, 3 minutes, 56 seconds left until Christmas!
But who's counting! lol.
My Goals to be completed before the end of 08':
1) to finally make an appt to see a gyn and keep it!
2) to continue eating healthy
3) incorporate some sort of exercise
4) to continue to lower my blood sugars and Cholesterol Levels!
5) to continue to be a happier and more positive me.
6) to continue trying to move on to a different job and make it into a Career that I will love!!
7) To not get sick anymore!!!! UGH! lol.
8) To be the best me possible!!! That includes trying to dress nicer and I'm getting my hair done this month too!!
9) To continue reaching out to people!!!
10) to help others in need!!!
Yes there are a lot of them, but I have faith in myself!!!!

What plan are you following?
I'm also fairly new to the group. I was diagnosed with PCOS about 4 years ago but never really knew anything about it until this year. I have been doing lots of research and finding lots of useful info. My doctor currently has me on Metformin 500mg a day and I only have my period maybe every couple of months. I have heard from reading many of your posts that 500 mg isn't enough or the common dosage?? Should I go see my doctor about it? I am trying to find someone to help keep me accountable for my eating. I tend to overeat on a daily basis. Also what are the best goals for exercise minutes for the month? Or how many miles should you walk in a month to have a good amount of exercise? Any info would be helpful.

I am on 500 mg Twice a day, so 1000 mg. + 5 mg of Glipizide ( I am a diabetic) and I dunno about the Fortamet, but I do know that the Glipizide works wonders. I know how can 5 mg of something do that much? But it does!
