Sourdough Bread?

  • I was looking through the SB holiday recipes and noticed that one of them uses Sourdough Bread. I'm not sure if it's allowed on SB, so I decided to be nosy on google and see what I could find. I read online that Sourdough Bread may be just as effective at controlling blood sugar as whole wheat:

I'm not diabetic, but one of the reasons that I started SB was to keep the refined carbs out of my diet.

So, what's your take, yay or nay? I LOVE Sourdough bread and would love to be able to include it.
  • Supposedly the acid in the bread slows the digestion of it, making it a low GI food. I don't use it as I like to have more fiber in my bread than sourdough breads have.
  • Sourdough bread is fine in Phase 2, so go ahead and enjoy. Just remember portion control, though!
  • Yup, it's allowed, Greeneyed. I use it when I'm making something that it just seems wouldn't work well with WW bread, though I try to make it a fairly rare part of my diet because it's easy to OD on it.

It works exceptionally well in that stuffing recipe, though. The acidity in the sourdough against the sweetness of the pears and the spices in the turkey sausage is delish!
  • Reading this post made me want sourdough bread - bad I know. So, I prepared teh starter tonight and in a few days I will be able to make it myself. And hopefully find some people to share it with - maybe for a staff meeting!
