So Glad I Found This Forum!

  • Wow! I just noticed the PCOS/Insulin Resistance forum. That is awesome!

I will post a short story version of my case in just a moment. You can read my other "case" or how being overweight came to be for me in the "Introductions" section on the main page. Anyways, here it goes ....

My husband & I started seeing a Fertility Specialist since we could not become pregnant on our own. They did several tests - blood work, glucose 3-hr, HSG, Endometrial Biopsy, etc. When they did the HSG & hormone blood work, that is when I was diagnosed. Plus, I was not at a healthy weight and obviously could not get pregnant.

I was on Metformin for 7 months. I practically lived in the bathroom. I swallowed Imodium like there was no tomorrow. I took myself off of it as I didn't see any improvement (or weight loss) anyways! My PCP tried diagnosing me with Pre-Diabetes ... until my A1c came back a 6.2! Grrrr, lol. Needless to say, for 2 years we went on trying to get pregnant with various infertility meds & it just never happened. We finally stopped this past March ... and this is a main reason why I'm here today wanting to lose weight. I can't go through those procedures again. I want to be healthy for any potential children we may have!

PS. PCOS & the hormone imbalances you go through make you feel crazy at times, lol. Or at least me! I want to feel normal - inside & out, not mountainous and crazy! lol
  • Kris10 - I've heard (and read) that Yaz can be really useful pre-conception for those with PCOS. Normally, the first cycle off of the Yaz pill, PCOS-diagnosed women ovulate strongly and are very likely to get pregnant. It regulates periods and helps moderate some of the ickier testosterone-related PCOS symptoms too (like acne and excess hair growth etc).

It might be an option for you to check out!
  • That is the best reason I've heard in awhile about why someone wanted to lose weight. :-) BRAVO! Keep coming her & learning & speaking & the weight loss will come, followed by the babies!!!
  • Mandalinn ~ The Yaz birth control pill ... really?? Do you know any women that has happened to? I'll definitely have to keep that in mind, although one of my main goals is to lose weight before becoming pregnant! Thanks a lot for the tip!

Extasee ~ That's sweet, thanks! I do plan on continuing to come here. I've started my lists of foods & tips to follow for when I go shopping this weekend. I can't wait to get started. I feel so motivated but overwhelmed at the same time because there's so much to take in, lol. Thanks though!!
  • Hi Kris I'm kinda new here. I am here for the same reasons you are. I can't get pregnant either. I haven't tried fertility drugs yet. My boyfriend and I aren't trying to get pregnant but we aren't trying to prevent it either. I want to get healthy too so that I can make a wonderful home for that baby for 9 months when it does happen.

I have heard that the Yaz b/c helps ease the PCOS symptoms too. I didn't know that it could aid in getting pregnant after you stop taking it though.

Mandalinn- Do you know how long one would have to take it (yaz b/c) to make you more likely to ovulate when you stop taking it??
  • On the Yaz, this is per my OB/GYN. She said that most normal women are told to wait a few months after going off BC to try to conceive, but for women with PCOS on Yaz, you have maybe 1-2 cycles immediately following going off where you have a higher than your average likelihood of conceiving. She has several patients who have had healthy pregnancies this way.
