Agave vs. honey

  • I picked up some agave to use in my tea, and I like the taste. It says that it low on the glycemic index, which I understand is supposed to be good for PCOS. I've also read that honey is low and it is good for overall health. Any thoughts on comparing the two, overall (not just GI)? I've tried stevia, and I just can't stand the taste, and I don't want to completely give up some sort of sweetener.
  • I use both honey and agave, depending on the purpose. I love agave because it's extremely environmentally friendly.

We're probably not going to eat enough honey to gain much nutritional benefit. I've read that the darker the honey the greater the nutritional value. Buckwheat honey is very dark and has the highest amount of antioxidants. Darker honeys taste stronger, though, sometimes similar to molasses. Sometimes I'll add a squirt of buckwheat honey to my tea.
