Amount of water daily?

  • I'm sure this had been asked a zillion times but I'm having trouble with the search (I know, duh, should be easy enough). I already looked around and can't find it, but somewhere I saw a formula for how many ounces of water a person should drink based on their weight. Sound familiar? I know 8 -8oz. glasses, but this was more specific. TIA~
  • Yeah I always heard 6-8 glasses of water daily. I personally usually drink about 3 16oz water bottles a day. You also have to think that alot of things we eat and other things we drink have water in them also. Tea, juice, soup.
  • My trainer has told me the rule of thumb is:

number of pounds you weigh divided by 2 = number of ounces

if you weigh 200 pounds you should drink 100 ounces of water - that is without exercise taken into account.
  • I drink about 60-64oz a day. I'm working on increasing that to 80, but it's slow going (I'm already peeing like crazy! ).
  • My problem is, I forget to drink! And then suddenly I will realize I am very thirsty and have to go downstairs and get a glassful of water. I had to get up in the middle of the night last night - had tomato sauce for dinner, which always makes me extra-thirsty.
  • Thanks everyone for all the replies. I think gggirls thing 'weight divided by 2=water intake' might be what I what I was thinking of. I'll try that. Either way, I have not been getting nearly enough water. I just always assumed I got enough since I only drink water, tea and coffee. But, it looks like I'll need to really make an effort to get it all in.
  • There are a lot of differing opinions on this topic. I think someone on here said that basically most doctors recommend to drink if you're thirsty. There's no need for the average person to force liquids and your thirst is generally a good gauge as to if you're getting enough water or not.
