I think I love cheese more than I love my husband

  • My husband is a great guy. He's brilliant in many ways, in his field, in his writings etc. etc. A true genius. However...normal every day things he sometimes falls flat on. He's also thin as a rail. 5'11" and 148 lbs last time he went to the doctor. This is bad enough, but he eats like a hog albeit every 3-4 days. He doesn't do it consciously, he just says, "I'm not hungry." He's the only person I know that hates food and hates eating. Plus he can skip lunch and loose 5 lbs.

He knows I'm on a diet, he knows I go to the gym everyday. He knows how hard I'm trying...

I go over to my grad school campus two days a week and don't get home until late. He's sweet enough to walk my dog and to bring me some dinner. Problem is the man can't cook toast (he once made a peanut butter and cocktail sauce sandwich because he thought it was jelly, but that's a different story.) So he goes out and buys me some dreaded take out. Now, not all take out is bad, there are some healthy choices around me. Some steamed broccoli, oyster sauce and brown rice would be nice. As would a nice garden salad with a touch of dressing on the side of course. So last night I come home to see what he got me for dinner...

In his infinite wisdom....he comes up with chicken parmigiana. Oh you have to be kidding. Breaded, deep fried chicken breast...oh it had yummy mozzarella cheese melted all over it (with Parmesan on the side.) It was sitting on a bed of baked ziti. ARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH! Since I was hungry, I ate half a breast after taking the cheese off and half a cup of the ziti (hey, at least there was no meat in the sauce!)

Ahhhh....men (apologies to any men on the site, but I mean it playfully rather than seriously )

Anyone else have a sometimes clueless husband/boyfriend/sister/brother/parent that buys chicken parm for you on a diet? Care to commiserate?

  • I've come to the conclusion that men are just wired differently than women. A woman can walk into a room and tell you everything that is out of place and needs to be put away; a guy will not notice that you painted the walls polkadottedstripes (your peanut butter and cocktail sauce story proves this is true!). If a guy is going to boil some water for pasta, he will fill the pan, put it on the burner, turn the burner on, and stand there and watch it until it boils. A woman will do all the sames things except, while waiting for it to boil will help the kids w/their homework, throw a load of laundry on, answer the phone, let the dog out, and prep the veggies for the salad. Oh I could really go on, but I won't.

He meant well I'm sure. His interest in food in nil. It wasn't that he wasn't thinking about you; he just wasn't thinking. Under the circumstances, I think you did pretty dang good w/dealing with it and having your dinner.

Disclaimer: Most men are wired differently. If yours isn't, consider yourself lucky!
  • I'm surrounded by these people! My DH eats whatever he wants constantly. My side of the family (although all overweight) eats constantly and the worst food possible. I'm pretty nervous about Christmas...not sure I'll be able to say no like I should. I seem to just loose my mind when I'm there and eat constantly along with them. Hopefully that doesn't happen this year!
  • Mine does the same thing . Like this morning he went and bought me a french vanilla frappucino which I love but definatelly not good for my diet .He dosent really think about it though he burns off all his calories at work so he pretty much eats and drinks what he wants.
  • the subject of this post totally cracked me up
  • I just gotta ask: How was the sandwich?
  • I love my husband, but he's a knucklehead! I'm glad I'm not the only one.
  • Re
    Hi
My brother knows that I like butterscotch ice cream and he loves me like anything. So he always brings butterscotch ice cream for me. Before I was not able to control myself and I used to forget that I am on diet. But it effects on my dieting then one of friend told me about mark Patrick’s programs. Programs is really awesome and its gives a way to live healthier life. Their weight loss programs are designed to help eliminate the behaviors that are making us overweight. Really it worked for me and I have reduced my weight. I think you people also have to try it and I hope you will also find some great results in your self.
  • Just so you know: I did not eat a bite of the peanut butter and cocktail sauce sandwhich. But it was kinda funny. My husband was like, "Does Jelly go bad? I think this jelly went bad." He was surprised by the first bite, but once he knew it was cocktail sauce that hadn;t gone bad, he finished the whole thing. Yuck.
  • " Does jelly go bad?" LOL
