Just looking for some support

  • Hello, I've been a member here for awhile now, but I have only posted a couple of times. My name is Tonja, by the way. Losing weight has been an on & off thing for me in the past. However, I feel it is REALLY going to happen for me this time. I am so determined right now and I feel like my time is now. I joined the local YMCA at the beginning of this month and I have been working out regularly since. I have been going about 5-6 times per week and I'm feeling really good about it all. I just tend to get frustrated because I want instant results. But I know that's not how it happens. I didn't gain this weight overnight and I'm not going to lose it overnight either. So if any of you have any tips or suggestions, feel free to throw them my way.

Right now I'm focusing on strength-training and cardio in my workouts. At the Y I'm a member of, they have a program called Fitlinxx. Not sure if any of you have ever heard of it, but it's a pretty neat little program. The trainer set me up on the machines that I will be using as I start off and it tracks everything for me as I go. I first started this weight loss journey, seriously, in mid-April. That's when I completely cut soda out of my diet. I was around 192 lbs. at that point. As of yesterday, I'm at 178. I'm pretty short at 5'1", so I'd like to get down to around 130 ultimately. I know this is doable, but I get frustrated sometimes!
  • Hey Tonja81!

You are doing great! Try not to be discouraged or impatient... just keep doing what you're doing!

  • Tonja81 Like JayEll said stick to what you are doing as you are doing so well. It is hard we see ourselves daily in the mirror and I do not think we see the changes in our body through giving it good healthy food and exercise right. Though I would suspect that someone whom hasn't seen you for while will notice the differences and the great strides you have made.

Even now for myself it has taken well over a year for my mind to catch up with what I see in the mirror. For a very long time I still saw the "old" me and I was so lucky that other people were telling how well I was doing or how much weight they could see I'd lost. I believed them otherwise I think I could have thrown in the towel. So give your mind time also to catch up with the changes you are making to your body.

Trust me you are not alone when you say you get frustrated and if you are anything like me I want results like yesterday So I try to focus on how far I had come so how much weight you have lost, how much fitter you are and how much you have toned up. All these little changes do add up to a big thing. Use the forum to help you along on those days you need that extra encouragement and use it to glean information from.

Good luck with healthy eating and reaching your mini goals along the way.
  • Anyone ever felt this?
    You are doing fantastic!

Haha, I get frustrated too. Exercise, though, makes me feel better about myself. One thing I love is walk-in classes. Like, abs & glutes or spinning. That way, I know for a fact that I really busted my butt and got a great workout.

    Good luck!
