Ah! The smell!

  • My kitchen smells like butt.

    Seriously.

My mom made chili, and for some reason decided to save the grease from the hamburger meat. She left it on the counter and it got hidden behind some crap, and then I noticed this HORRIBLE smell the other day... and it had gotten worse. I then discovered the bowl.

It was DISGUSTING. I really did gag.

I've burned candles, sprayed Lysol, but it seems the smell is attached to the wood cabinets!

Does anyone know a "secret trick" to odor elimination?!

And this visit with my mom is coming to an end soon, and I'd rather it not be with a smelly kitchen hanging over my head!
  • Put some distilled white vinegar in a bowl...put that bowl in EVERY room of your house, or if the kitchen is the only affected room, in every corner of your kitchen. Leave it to sit and the odors will dissipate.
  • Boil some cinnamon sticks in water on your stove. Makes it smell like you are making something super yummy.
  • Mmmm cinnamon butt

  • HAHA! Love it. Maybe douse the entire kitchen in bleach?

I would toss the grease and wash out that bowl for starters. Then I would give the kitchen a good scrubbing from top to bottom (tell your mom you saw a roach or ants..LOL...in case she asks).
I have one of those plug in scent room fresheners in my kitchen. It really helps and I open my kitchen windows once a day for fresh air.

    HTH.
  • Many years ago my ex-wife used to boil cloves to make the house smell good...I never liked it but went along with it. One day we took off for the day and came back to a house smell of burnt cloves....she forgot she had a pot on the stove....fried cloves....no more water...not sure if that smell ever went away!
  • Is the bowl really worth something to you? If not, toss the bowl.

clean your cabinets and counters with baking soda and water and like someone else mentioned, leave a bowl of white vinegar on the table to absorb smells. You can also leave a bit of baking soda on a paper towel to absorb some of the smell.

Also, if you have windows in the house open them for a day or so.

The smell will eventually go away.
  • This tread made me laugh out loud. I like the new Fiesta Chicken soup made by Progresso buy dh said it smelled like butt. It does taste good but now I try not to take a deep breath when I open the can because all I can think about is what dh said.
