Canadian Thanksgiving

  • Morning!

This weekend is Canadian Thanksgiving (and it's our election day next Tuesday - that's a fun thing about Canada, we call an election and two months later, boom it's done!

I'm hosting "Orphan Thanksgiving" on Sunday, all our single friends come over and enjoy a feast, it's really fun. We're having roast turkey, prime rib, potatoes, turnips, beans, cheesecake & pie, the whole she-bang. It was very helpful last year to have a bunch of plastic containers, and as soon as the meal was over I made up "take out" bags for all the boys to take HOME WITH THEM!! I kept enough for 2 sandwiches and that's it! win - win!

So i'm planning to splurge, but only on ONE meal, not for the week

Happy Long Weekend to my fellow Canucks!
  • Happy Thanksgiving to you and all the other Canadians.

Trazey...it's so good to have a plan! Having all those containers to distribute the goodies is a great thing to do. Yes...extra turkey will be the fun and healthy food to keep.

Enjoy this special meal with no guilt and then hop right back on your plan the next day. You did well last year, so you have a good foundation to do well this year.
  • Happy Thanksgiving Trazey! I hope you have a wonderful holiday. I love your idea of keeping enough food for a few sandwiches, but sending the rest home with your guests. What a kind way to treat both your guests and your own body!
  • Cant wait for Thanksgiving!! my WW leader shared a good recipie with us, an alternative to pumpkin pie, pumpkin squares.

Mix together, one box of angel food cake mix with one can of pure pumpkin and 1/4 cup of water, bake according to the box. You can also add nutmeg and cinnamon to taste. She brought some in, they were good.

bake it in a 9x13 pan, cut it into 12 even squares, and it's 2 points a square!

Another alternative to the recipie is, use a can of light cherry pie filling and 1/4 cup of cocca powder and it makes back forest squares. I'm gonna make these for Thanksgiving this weekend!
  • Happy Thanksiving! Good luck enjoying the guest more than the food.
  • WoooHooo!

    HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!!

    Sending tons of love!!!

  • Happy Turkey Day!

  • Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canadians!
I'm focussed on staying on plan this weekend.
Hope you all enjoy a safe, happy and wonderful weekend with family, & friends.
  • Here in the UK we do not celebrate Thanksgiving but I know how important it is in Canada and the States. I really like the idea of inviting single friends around for this special meal so that they do not spend the day alone.

Great idea of giving takeout bags so they have some ready made food which believe you me when your on your own little things like that mean a lot. Excellent idea of saving some turkey so that you can make healthy sandwiches for yourself.

I think having special meals like this once in a blue moon is a good way of staying on plan the rest of the time as you know that you have these tasty meals with a few naughties to look forward to. Trust me they seem to taste all the nicer for only having once in a while.
  • Great idea! And Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canadian Chickadees!
