One Year Surgversary

  • I had my one year check up a few days early. I can't believe how fast this year has gone. It took so long for the WLS day to get there and has gone by so fast. I have officially lost 144 lbs. My labs are excellent with protein and Vit D being on the lower borderline. I feel 200% healthier. I can move and I'm ALIVE.

Now about my check up: I have had a hernia that is in between two surgeries areas. One is where they did the WLS and the other is my GB surgery done when I was 19 years old. This is the third hernia in this area. The crux: my surgeon is afraid, because of the location of the hernia, that it is going to mess up where they rearranged my innards; like pull my pouch into it. I've also got about 10 to 15 lbs of loose hanging skin that is pulling on my herninated area and my poor old back. So.....I've got to look into plastics so that it will be done all at one time. They told me that they will wave the surgical suite fee and double billing, but I will probably have to pay out of pocket for the plastic surgeon's fee, but not the hernia surgeon's fee. This is also what is probably making me short of breath because of the weight pulling down on me. I'm not independently wealthy so we'll just have to see. By the way, I have a contingent nursing job at a new home healthcare place, and I really can't afford to take six to eight weeks to off for healing. I just got accepted for the job yesterday.
  • Hurray on the job, Nancy!!!!

I understand completely about having to pay for your plastics...I will too if I can have it done at all but I think your's is more along the line of "medically necessary" then mine would be. Are you sure you can't get your ins. to kick in even part of it??? I know how ins. companies can be and right now it not a good time for us all when it comes to finances but I would at least try if I had your Medical necessity!

Call them and find out...no harm in askin' eh?

  • Hi Nancy, this is your surgery buddy in montana!!
    To All,
Its my first year out also and have lost 130 pounds. Looks like i need to catch up to you. Im doing good and walking and even doing yard work.
Doctors are pleased and suprised i have had no complications. I must have been the lucky one with only vomiting once in a year!! I love my protein drink and even like veggies and fruit now. I mainly still count carbs and avoid starches also. But know i can eat them if i want to and once in awhile i do. The one thing i cant eat anymore and use to love is Beef. it wont go down and balls up. So i stick to fish and chicken and lots of soups.. So despite the surgery and losing our farm...... im still changing my lifestyle with my food and my thoughts. Gastric Bypass has saved my life....
Nancy, be careful a wind gust dont pick u up and blow you to montana.
Everyone, keep trying and treat every morning like a new beginning, dont think of yesterday , if it was a bad day for food. I believe in staying off those darn scales, they are so defeating....
Best of luck , carvinmom in montana
