Online Nutrition and Fitness Courses

  • Does anyone know of any good online programs in nutrition and/or fitness? i'm really interested teaching. I travel alot where my husband is the military so online courses are the only option at the moment.
I have just begun searching online and was wondering if anyone knows of any they have taken, looked into.

One i'm SUPER interested in is The Institute of Integrated Nutrition. I have emailed for info and hope to call them tomorrow.

Anyway.. thanks in advance to anyone that may have some info in this area!
  • I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for, but as I had a very full academic schedule in high school, I took P.E. credits correspondence.

I had a really good experience with BYU's Stepaerobics (AEROB45) course. The DVD is a lot of fun, with beginner level, intermediate and then an extra 10 minutes of advanced step, and then stretching and toning exercises afterward.

The downside was that it is only the same recording, and if you're like me, you'll end up having all 40 minutes of the intermediate/advanced session memorized, including the song lyrics, and the times when the instructor or the background steppers slip up. =P But if you don't mind repetition, I strongly recommend it. I was able to use the same DVD regularly for an entire year and never got too tired of it. Its a GREAT work-out, and the accompanying lessons about nutrition, fitness and physical health are educational (albeit slightly stuck in the pyramid debacle of the '90s as far as nutrition is concerned... still, most of it is tried and true healthy eating.)

Anyway, I don't know if that is anything around what you were looking for, but hope it helps!

  • OH, and though I haven't personally taken it, you may also be interested in Lifetime Weight Control from BYU as well. It includes healthy eating information and activities as well as exercise.
  • I'm interested in getting certified to be a nutrition counsellor and help people with nutirtion plans that work for them. I still have some work to go with fitness.. but fitness intruting and nutrition are what i wantto be able to eventually teach.

I heard that the YMCA offers programs that eventually certify you in beinga fitness intrustor.. But i can't find info online as of now.
