Measurement conversions--food scale

  • I really should have paid more attention in junior high home economics. I am trying to use my new food scale for everything, but am confused about converting cups to ounces. I think I've been making the mistake of assuming 1 cup=8 ounces but that might not be true for non-liquids...for example, instead of 1/4 cup cooked oatmeal, I assumed that would be 2 ounces...but that came out to be more than my 1/4 measuring cup. Oops.

Does anyone have a reference sheet or good website to convert specific foods from cups to ounces? How many ounces in 3/4 cup strawberries? If I have to go back to using the old fashioned measuring cups, so be it, but I really like my food scale!

Thanks for any help or advice! Kim

I don't know of a converter like that - they pretty much let you know with the food sheet how to measure - if it's in oz use the scale - if it's in cups use a measuring cup. I like using the cup for strawberries - I cut those babies up into little pieces to get maximum strawberries!

Meemo, I'm lazier than you are...but I'll start taking the extra time to cut them up small and use the measuring cup. Thanks for your response!

LOL - I'm not sure anyone's lazier than me! I just like to get as much bang for my 3/4 cup as possible!
