You or your spouse are expecting a child, a genie has given you one wish for that new born child. The genie will make certain the child has an abundance of one trait. Which one of those traits would you choose?

• Intelligence
• Kindness
• Positive Outlook
• Determination

This is a tough one, but I think I would chose positive outlook. I'm curious what the rest of you would pick.

Intelligence.

Intelligence! Given the genes the child would be given, it's going to need this the most. :-)

Kindness!!

Kindness! We have enough evil geniuses in the world.

Ditto.

all the other traits can be instilled with proper upbringing.

Can I add one?

Common sense.

I know a lot of kind people who wind up being taken advantage of to their detriment.

I know a lot of really intelligent people who have no common sense and therefore can barely function in the real world.

I know a lot of optimists who are so binded that they fail to see that they need to act or that things actually might be a little bit bad.

And I know a lot of determined people who just can't make it happen because they don't have the other components to make it happen.

I'd vote common sense. Because with that, you can get all of the above, and get just about anywhere.

This is tough. Hmmm....
In my opinion:

Good Looks - fleeting. Really doesn't get you too far unless you have a taste for the spotlight, and even then... fleeting (except in rare cases...mmm... Sean Connery )

Intelligence - always good. But the "abundance" part scares me. Brainiacs aren't known for having social skills or living life. I would want my child to live and have experiences instead of being stuck behind a computer or in a lab. There is such thing as too smart (ie; annoying).

Kindness - doormat! Next.

Positive Outlook - always good... but I think being realistic is better (and there are better picks (imho) on this list)

Determination - I think this is my pick. The only downside is sometimes people are so determined they don't know when to give up. The "abundance" thing would probably make this true for my kid. If I could have this with a little "learn from your mistakes" I think the kid would be set!


...But... oh, intelligence... still a good one. I think it's a tie. Or at least a VERY close second.

Can I change my choice?

Intelligence...I am hoping that all three of my children choose Evil Genius as a career path.

determination... You can do anyhting if you want it bad enough. I think photochicks idea of common sense is great. I have to agree. I have some VERY intelligent friends who have NO common sense at all. Makes me wonder somtimes.

Kindness

Not enough nice people out there.

Good looks are not the most important thing in the world - Kindness, Determination and a positive outlook are things that can be taught to anyone - I go with intelligence. However- I also think Common Sense is very important - and considering the lack of it in my hubbys side of the family our kid would need it the most. lol.

seriously though- I think I'd just ask the genie for a girl.
