  • I actually didn't weigh myself before I started or during phase 1. I really was struggling with cravings for so long that phase 1 was all about dealing with cravings for me. If I started craving I allowed myself to eat as much as I wanted but only phase 1 friendly food. Once I got the cravings in check then I started thinking about weightloss.
  • Although the book says 8 to 13 pounds, results vary. It depends on how much you need to lose. 10% of that is good!

    Phase 1 is not the weight loss phase but the bust the cravings stage to get ready for Phase II.
  • The first time I did Phase 1 (almost 5 years ago), I lost 7 lbs the first week and 4 lbs the second week, for a total of 11 lbs. But any time I've repeated Phase 1 since then, I've only lost a couple of pounds, or none at all. As Ruth said, Phase 1 is mainly for curbing your cravings and eliminating your body of toxins. The real weight loss starts in Phase 2, although it's very slow.
  • When I first did phase 1, I lost 4 pounds during the two weeks. I don't recall how many were each week. I guess I could look at my tracking spreadsheet if I wanted to. I was on a diuretic at the time so there wasn't much water weight to lose. Getting rid of the cravings is the important part.
  • The first time I did Ph 1 I lost nothing the first week and 5 lbs. the second week. I also ate as much as I wanted to get through that first week as long as they were Ph 1 foods, so that may have had something to do with it. Once my cravings were gone, I felt ready to deal with weight loss.

    I lost 7.5 lbs the first week and 1.5 lbs the second week. I was pretty happy, but it really does very.... I think if you were eating more junk were before starting that results in a bigger loss. Not a 100% sure on that tho......
  • well I just finished phase I 2 days ago and at that point weightloss was 14 pounds. I've lost more since but that's because I've been sick.
  • i have to admit i can't remember if it was 8 or 9 I've been doing this so long it no longer matters....
  • I've seen people loose nothing, others gain a pound, others loose 15 pounds... please don't use anyone else as a target as it depends how active you were before starting, and how active you are now, also on what foods you were eating! Before starting southbeach I really was watching what I ate, so I wasn't eating the chips and cakes, etc.!
  • I lost about 5# the 1st week and around 3# the second week.
  • I think I lost 4.5 the first week and gained 1 the second (that was the week of TOM though). I was already losing weight and had already cut back the amount of bread, rice, and pasta I was eating, so I'm not sure I'd be typical.
  • I think my first go at SB, I lost a total of 7 lbs. This time, I was already doing WW Core for almost a year, so I did Phase 1 for a week and lost 1 lb.
