Does anyone else with PCOS sweat a lot?

  • I have had a problem with excessive perspiration since I was fifteen. I wouldn't even wear a coat in the winter (in Michigan!) because I would sweat through my armpits and back of my shirt even without a jacket. I asked a dermatologist about it when I was sixteen and she told me to use Certain-dri over the counter deodorant, and it worked fine for me. I no longer need to use it, but I have also had a problem with sweating in my uh..crotch area. It's very embarrassing, as if I sit on a plastic char (as in any of my six classes), then I will often leave a wet spot on it, unless I kind of scoot my butt across the seat while I stand up, which looks really weird, but at least there's not a nasty wet spot on the damn chair. :-D

Anyway, I'm very sorry if that is too much information, but I was hoping someone else has this problem and you could give me some advice on how to deal with this.

I already wear 100% cotton underwear, shower twice a day in the summer, and once a day in the winter. Corn starch and baby powder do not work (more than 10 minutes, anyway), deodorant spray doesn't work. I use soap for sensitive skin. If I put certain-dri down there I get clogged pores that are very painful. So...yeah. it's awesome.
  • i HAVE PCOS - I do not sweat like that- you might want to check with your doctor( I am sure you have) but I do not think that is from PCOS
  • I have PCOS and do sweat like that, but I don't think it is PCOS-related. It DOES seem to have a genetic component, though, because all of the females in my family are relatively high on the sweating scale. Post-workout, or if it is hot, I'm a bit of a mess!

For me, losing weight helped A LOT. Now the excessive sweat is really just when I work out or when I am working hard outside or something, not constantly or just from sitting/walking around.
  • oh, that reminds me--I forgot to mention that my sweating hasn't changed even when my weight has fluctuated--size 9 or size 18- no difference whatsoever.
  • There is a condition that causes excessive sweat called hyperhidrosis. Google it, find some info on WebMD or other reputable medical sites and go talk to your doctor.

Also, a tip. I carry in my purse a portable pack of Cottonelle whipes. Whenever I use the restroom I refresh myself. This is especially useful in the summer! :-)

    Good luck.
  • Have you tried thin pantyliners?
