I think this is much more of a personal issue than an absolute. Some people have an adverse reaction to aspertame. Some people find that drinking anything artificially sweetened triggers cravings for more sweet food. Some people are not affected by it at all.
There is no absolute here.

This myth has been busted many many many times. The action of the ingredients and the carbonation will tenderize steak, but it will not eat through it.
The thing about rust/corrosion on a car battery is also a scare tactic. You can do the same thing with baking soda, yet we eat that all the time.
If YOU feel that drinking Diet Coke is impeding your process, then I'd say yeah, try to give it up or cut back. But if it's not, then don't stress about it.
