2 month plateau.. and frustrated..

  • Hey all!
So I have been hovering around the same weight for 2 months now... but I'm UNABLE to break into the next weight realm!
    I've been between 170.2 and 173.6 for 2 MONTHS!!!
I've tried cutting calories... Adding cardio.. Adding calories... Adding weight training... Eating more carbs... Eating more vegetables.. Cutting back on carbs.. You name it, I've been trying it! (giving each major change about a week or so..)

The main difference in life between now and 2 months ago is that I've switched to a vegetarian diet--I'm feeling healthier, definitely, which is the most important thing--
but if I could just SEE 169.8 on my scale, I would be so happy! It's so frustrating to be stuck .4 lbs above the next threshold!

    Any thoughts? Suggestions? Similar Plateaus?
I just feel like I'm condemned to live a life at 170...!!!!

My newest weight goal is to lose 5 lbs by the 29th. (or even just that pesky .4 would be enough!)
  • I feel your pain, I really do because for the last 4 months or so I've been at 151-154lbs and it's driving me nuts.

I have tried everything I can think of. I've upped my calories, reduced them, increased my exercise, reduced it, drank less alcohol, ate less carbs, cut down on dairy, added vitamin supplements and NADA...nothing has freaking worked!

I will keep my fingers crossed for you, just gotta battle on...
  • Ah the Bermuda Triangle of the 170s.

If you do a search on it, you'll find that a whole darned lot of us hit a stall in the 170s. For some reason it's the magic number for a lot of people. I have no idea why.

I hovered in the 170s for ... oh ... 5ish months? After about 2 months I quit trying to lose and just decided to spend a while maintaining for a bit. I think *for me*, I needed a bit of a break and some time for my body to regroup.

I've finally started losing again, but much more slowly.

One thing that I did notice about your post is that you said you switched to a veggie diet ... is it possible (since you're exercising and working with weights) that you're not getting enough protein to sustain/build your muscles? I would try adding more protein to your diet if you can and see if that helps. Try for 35% to 40% of your cals to come from protein and see what that does.

    Good luck!!

    .
  • I know, I hate plateaus! It's mostly just comforting to know i'm not alone!!

Photochick-- I'm absolutely terrified of being protein deficient-since I dance and am active so much- so I've made sure to include plenty of tofu-based products, soymilk, and nuts in my diet. I'll definitely try tracking the protein levels closely, and see waht that does for me!

I did Weight Watchers before when I was 17 and plateaued at 150-155. But I think that my body was "used" to being 160. Now my body is "used" to being in the 170's.. *sigh* Onto the work of trying to convince it that's not where ~I~ am comfortable!!!
