I had a hot dog, but do not have package information.
Also, when I eat something like waffles, do I count waffles plus syrup, or does WW have general guidelines for meals like that?

There are so many different kinds of hot dogs such as regular, beef, turkey, bun length, low fat, etc. But assuming you are asking about just a regular hot dog, my records say 4 points. (a turkey one is 1/2 that.) Don't forget to add the points for a bun, if you had one. A regular one has 2 points.
Anytime you eat a food with extras, you must add the extras. Exceptions are a packaged food, or meals, where the nutrition info is given for each serving. For your waffles, you'd need to include points for the syrup, butter, fruit, or anything else you added to it.
It can seem tricky and overwhelming at first, but just keep at it and before you know it, you'll be adding those points in your head!
