Low Carb Lolita's and Atkins Angels 9/1

  • What? It's already September? How did that happen? And I was having such a nice summer?
We had a fun weekend with lots of lake time and a football game! I think football is boring, but it's fun to see such a big group of people cheering for the same side!
Now it's time to pay the piper. All summer I've been on and off plan, having a real good time and promising myself, After Labor Day, I'll Be Good. So it's after Labor Day.
I got up this morning and made two salads so DH can join me in induction for the next two weeks. But that's all the prep I've done so far. I probably need to consider menus for the next two weeks right away! I've stayed close enough to on plan to be kind of sick of my old stand bys. I'd like to get a couple of steak for tonight or tomorrow so DH think Atkins is good! Maybe I'll have to stop at the store on my way home.
I'm not sure DH can stay OP and I have to mentally prepare myself to keep going without him. But he really needs to lose weight. Now he's having all kinds of knee problems - already did the knee surgery a year or two ago and didn't help. I think taking a few pounds off the knee would do more than good than anything. Also, he's been warned by the doctor that he's heading toward Type 2 Diabetes. And he's got a strong family history of heart disease. He REALLY needs to lose weight!
Anyway, Happy Tuesday and let's be grateful for a short week!!!!
  • Lynn, sometimes men need a wake up call & I would think type 2 diabetes would be just the ticket!! My DBF was told his cholesterol was 275 back in Dec. Dr. wanted to immediately put him on Lipitor & I said NO WAY!!! You must understand something, this is a man who loved his sandwiches & his beer. Honestly, I would never have described him as fat..but, lets just say, his eating habits needed help. I thought this would be a battle but, he very much surprised me He isn't doing Atkins which is ok (even though he thinks I'm upset about that) He's lost 35 lbs in a little over 2 months and has been maintaining the loss. I am very proud of him! He bought himself a bike as well. He's also taking several supplements. Trust me when I tell you, this is a HUGE step for him!! He will be getting his cholesterol checked in the next week or so & I will keep you posted on his progress. So, don't lose hope Lynn, sometimes these stubborn men of our's turn around & completely surprise us!!!
  • Back to the old grind...
    Hi Ladies,
Did great over the long weekend resisting. Even yesterday my Aunt's pasta. I won't go in to gory details but I have to say, that it felt good to say no. I Had a very small amount of sauce on top of my burger. feel so much better this way. Managed to stay in ketosis but my loss for the week was 6 instead of 10. Methinks is due to lack of water. I failed miserably at it. I was better camping than usual but not good enough. I was wondering does anyone have issues with ketostix results when they drink mega water?
    How is everyone???
  • Quote: I was wondering does anyone have issues with ketostix results when they drink mega water?
I lost over 100 lbs on Atkins and the ketostix never changed color
  • I haven't had a lot of luck with Ketostix either, but I really really want that evidence that I'm in ketosis. There are other clues, of course, and I've experienced the bad taste (which I'm sure means bad breath) in the past and the stix were just slightly pink. I'm sure water "waters down" the results and I'm sure lots of people lose weight without the stix, but I would feel so much better with a nice purple reading! But I also know that drinking water is important too so I won't skimp to make my stix easier to read!!! The only real results are when you're losing weight!
  • I've never used ketostix at all. I try to rely more on what the scales, my clothes, my measuring tape, my DH (bless him!), and my DD5 (out of the mouths of babes!) are telling me.

I had some ice cream last night. A single scoop worth. It was so sugary sweet it repulsed me and I couldn't get past the first bite. I used to love this flavor of ice cream too! How did I eat this stuff?

Today I feel sick too...wondering if my body is in shock from one mouthful. Missed going to the gym this morning because I felt so nauseated. Will try to go for a run this evening instead.

Official weigh day yesterday, suppose I should update my ticker, huh? Even though the scales got down as low as 156 during these past 10 days my official weigh in was at 158. Yo-yo. Can't complain though, it's still 5 lbs. lost in the last 10 days.

Hoping the warm sunny weather holds up through the weekend. Hope everyone is having a good week!
  • Good morning. One day of induction done. 13 more to go. DH says he stayed on plan too, but he "accidently" ate a bunch of peanuts. I pointed out that they were no on plan and he said he wouldn't do it again. I'm not sure whether he finished off a bottle of red wine or poured it down the sink. I'm guessing he drank it, but I'm not going to call him on it. I'm hoping he'll at least try to stay on induction for the two weeks, even if he slips a little now and then. Luckily, there are no more open bottles of wine around.

Kim, I expected my DH to change his WOE when the doctor started talking diabetes. He watched his mother struggle with that for several years, but it made no impact on him. He's been on cholesterol and blood pressure drugs for years and that didn't change him either. Right now, we're both just getting old and getting some aches and pains, but we have the big trip coming up. It's the thought of keeping up with the tour group that's motivating him, I think, or at least that's what I've been using on him. But really, I want us both to avoid diabetes if possible. (Sigh) One thing I've learned over all these years of marriage is that I'm not responsible for the choices he makes. I'll definitely provide healthy food and I'll definitely encourage him to make healthy choices, but he has to want to do it too. I can't do it for him.

The biggest problem for me is DD16. She's doing all that running and dancing and is already pretty skinny. She needs carbs! I can make her macaroni and cheese without eating it, but I don't trust DH. I'd like to keep all that stuff out of the house, but I want her to eat a balanced diet. Not sure how that's going to work.

So I'm pretty hungry now, so I guess I need another day or two on plan to reach ketosis and the appetite suppressant phase. Looking forward to that.

So our list of missing Lolita's keeps growing. Where's Calmie? Hope she's doing all right!
  • Oh no! It looks like I've scared away all the Lolitas and Angels again Maybe I am in Ketosis and it's my breath that driving everyone off..... (kidding).
I'm well into day 3 now and feeling a little better. DH says he's still OP too, but he doesn't really listen to me. He was going to a business lunch thing today and chose to "not eat" because the salad bar is expensive and not very good. I tried to tell him to suck up the expense and eat some lettuce because I'm not sure he can sit at a table of people eating and completely abstain. But he'll do what he wants. I've got my salad so I'm set.
  • Whoo hoooo
My scale said 282 this am. I have a virus and pink eye. Dr scale says I'm down 10 lbs too but I was 286 there. He says the ketostix should be light pink. He wants me drinking lots of water to flush them out. I was so happy to hear this. How is everyone?
  • Whoa, ten pounds!!! Good for you, Bigmomma! I hope I can post something like that next week. Sorry to hear about the virus and pink eye. I guess you've got little kids? I remember those days when every virus in the world came to our house. That's one good thing about teenagers - you don't see them enuf to catch anything.

The first four days of induction haven't been bad. I'm already getting over the hunger and no real bad cravings, but the weekend is coming and that's more of a challenge. Dh has been bugging me to go to the movies all week. It's been raining and he works at home, so he gets antsy. But for me, it's so much easier to stay in at night and drink herb tea and not have to deal with my favorite - movie popcorn. I'll have to do something with him this weekend though or he'll go bonkers and start eating and drinking.

He's been OP too, except I did finally ask him about that half bottle of wine that disappeared and he confessed that it went down his throat, not the sink. And he went out to lunch yesterday and had only unsweetened iced tea - I didn't think he could do that. He wants to bring beef jerky to the movies and I had to tell him "no." Maybe we'll spurlge on a diet coke. In the past, he loses weight much easier than I do, so even with a little cheating, he may very well beat me!

So here's to an "on plan" weekend and a big loss at the next weigh in!!!!
  • The weekend challenge is...
to stay on plan! Weekends are always tough for me. Especially getting in my water. I'm kind of in a groove but am on alert because I've noticed when I get cocky, I slip.

I do have little kids. My daughter is one and my son is eight. She just moved up into the snotty nose kid room which should expose her to everything imaginable. I think I got the pink eye when she sneezed in my eye the other night. Hopefully this winter won't be too bad.

I'm going to scrapbook with my girlfriends Saturday afternoon to early evening. Sunday is my deceased Sister-In-Law's second birthday since she passed. We're all still torn up about it.

Lynn, What about zapping some pepperoni chips for the movies? You could easily sneek those in, I think.

    Scale said 281 this morning.

Hope you all have a fab weekend. I'll be posting over the weekend. It really helps stay on track.
  • My scale broke last week and I haven't been able to get a new one yet. Any suggestions? The old scale was just a digital made by Sunbeam. Hey, it lasted about 7 yrs. I don't want to spend a fortune.
  • Sorry all, had a busy weekend. DD5 turned into DD6 and we had a house full of screaming 5-6 year olds.

Had a (planned) single slice of birthday cake at her party (japanese variety which is lower in carbs and sugar than the american standard...and has lots of fresh strawberry and kiwi mixed in). Have planned to have 3 slices a year. One at each of our birthdays.

It's Monday morning, I'm heading to drop her at school and get in my workout. Will post more later.
  • A new week...
Weigh in this am said 278 whooo hooooo. I'm super excited. Didn't post over the weekend because it was crazy busy. Not enough water, but better than normal. Both DH and DD are home with the pink eye. I tried not to pass it...I have a wedding reception to go to 10/11 and I have a pre-pregnancy dress I want to wear, but I must drop another 15-20 lbs. I can do it. Back to the gym this week, which will help.

Hope you enjoyed the cake Snappie. My 40th is in November and I want to decide well in advance how to handle. I might do a homemade sugar free cheesecake. I really don't want to go back to the sugar. It's so hard to break the cycle, I think I may abe better off just not going there.

Lynn, how did you do? And your Husband?
