Proper foundation garments!

  • Ok with all this talk about how our bodies are hanging and dangling and not looking the way we would have if we were in posession of the skin of the young and elastic...I want to bring up the somewhat delicate subject of Foundation garments!

I had a bra fitting today. (get one of you are losing weight...it makes such a big difference!) Now I'm in a 38D...not bad really for having lost more then 100lbs! (We won't talk about shape, Ok? ) I was in a 42DD for years but last time I had the girl hoist measured, I was a 40DD...at least at a 38D I am still proportionate. Glad to be able to say I have lost more back fat then boob!

Let me quote Dolly Parton when she said to Shirley McClain's character in Steel Magnolias..."I haven't left the house without lycra on these thighs since I was 13." Shirley replied "You were raised right!"

I would like to share my love of my version of "lycra", they're called "Spanx" They are like a reenforced control top panty hose without the hose. I got mine at Lane Bryant's and they are a wonder! Not as hot as something made of lycra I think. Get the one that goes all the way up to the bra line and down to the thigh...it gives my squishy middle more of an hour glass shape, holds the waist in and keeps the thighs from jiggling much when I run. I got a knockoff at Walmart but they didn't breath well.

    Anyone have a favorite?

  • I purchased the Target version and they roll down my back!!! I always feel like I have to hoist them up! Ugh! How much to the true Spanx cost?

I once purchased a girdle thing with the wires. And everytime I sat down the wires dig into my flab. OUCH!!!!!
  • I think I want more people to talk about spanx..... I need more info. Do tell do tell!!!!!

    um. please?
  • Spanx are better for shape then the knock offs, they don't roll down if you get the ones that go up to the bra line, they are sized large meaning the chart is iffy...if you have a choice, pick the smaller size, they are sized like panty hose by height and weight, they cost about $36, come in black and nude, you can get them at Lane Bryant's or Torrid here in Idaho or online.

Now you know about as much as I do.

  • When I did the Woman's World shoot, they gave me the BEST pair of Spanx. They not only have butt-shaping "butt cups" that lift, they also came with straps that allow you to attach them to your bra, so you never have to worry about them slipping down. It's this one and I'll tell you, my butt has never been so lifted!

  • spanx don't really work for everyone. You definitely have to make sure you have the right size. Follow the height/weight chart---don't lie to yourself or the spanx make it more noticeable I think. I work at Lane Bryant, we sell a lot of spanx. They really are awesome, but the rolling thing is a common problem. It just depends on how your body is made and where the spanx hit you. the ones that go up to the bra line work really well for me in the front---but if you look at me from the back, they roll. Not pretty.

I don't recommend the cheap knock offs. they just don't work as well as the Spanx...not even the assets (the ones from target), even though they're made by the same company.

Spanx aren't too badly priced. I'd say they average 30 bucks, depending on what piece you are getting.
  • I checked out the web addy above from mandalinn82 and love the idea of a strap the attached the spanx to the bra...great idea!

I just love that they hold my skin in place when I exercise. It's much needed!

  • I have had both Spanx and knockoffs, both roll on me but I like thepart that isn't rolling.
I think I'll try the higher power and see if I can attach it to my bra.
    I'm too lumpy without anything.
