I'm actually amazed at the number of things I have eaten. And there are only two things that I actually wouldn't eat and that's only because I'm not dumb enough to eat a raw Scotch Bonnet or meat that's been lying on the road in the sun for God knows how long. If I didn't think it would sear the inside of my mouth, I'd give the Scotch Bonnet it a try - I have eaten raw Thai chilies before.

  • That's a really good point kaplods ...

Actually .. you know, it's very possible that I have eaten roadkill and not known about it. My father's family grew up in Arkansas and East Texas and have always farmed and hunted to put food on the table. I've eaten a LOT of venison with that part of the family and I actually would have no idea if it was shot by one of the guys or if it was a deer hit by a car and immediately taken to the processor.

I can't say that it would be out of the realm of possibility and I will admit that in that case I don't have a problem with it. If an animal has to die, then I think putting the meat to good use is the "right" thing to do ... rather than just dragging it off to the side of the road to rot.
  • I wouldn't recommend the scotch bonnet (and if they mean a WHOLE pepper, then I'd have to change my answer).

I LOVE hot peppers, and a friend brought me some scotch bonnets from his friend's garden. I took a (very small) bite and it nearly took my breath away (as in I nearly stopped breathing). I was in very severe pain for what seemed like nearly an hour (most peppers, no matter how hot give you a break after about 20 minutes).

Funniest thing though, is I used a marker to make a little jackolantern out of one of the peppers and tacked it to my work bulletin board. When the pepper started to wilt, I took it down. When I quit and cleaned out my desk, my thumb and fingers started to tingle and I put them to my mouth, and my mouth started to burn - I had apparently touched the thumb tack that had held the pepper - many months before.

    Rolaids uses kaolin, too.
You know, there is a disorder where people crave and get addicted to eating straight kaolin. (Although not all clay eating is a disorder)
  • Quote:

Then I've definitely eaten it. For a while, before I lost weight, I should have bought stock in Rolaids. Every night I got the worst heart burn. I seriously used to buy the large bottles from Sam's and go through 2 a months.

  • I hereby order all of you who have not tried bagna cauda to take an off-plan day and try it. It's quite possibly my favorite thing ever.
  • I think my favorite thing on the list is Mole although the indian stuff would come a close second. Although the list is very arbitrary and there are things I'd probably swap out for things I think it is important for people to eat/try

The rolaids/kaolin is interesting, I couldn't think of what rolaids were.
  • Ah bagna cauda, perhaps the most magical substance on the planet.

It sounds disgusting to some, but is quite amazing. It's anchovy, garlic, butter and/or olive oil with a touch of cream optional. If you love the stuff in the bottom of the shrimp scampi bowl, you'll freak over bagna cauda.

My hubby just "didn't get it," until I made it and included very crusty, italian bread among the dippers (I usually try to use the raw veggies omstead of the more addictive, and more caloric bread).

    Now he definitely "gets it."

The bread is awesome, but you definitely get a lot more calories, and a lot more of the dip soaked into the bread, that way.
  • I've tried just over half the things on this list.

Stuff I've tried that I would never eat again:
    • sea urchin
    • snails (I tried them when I was younger and more adventurous about what I would eat. I even remember liking them, but I just don't think I could get my head around eating them now.)

Stuff that I would never in a million years try:
    • Brawn, or head cheese
    • Raw Scotch Bonnet pepper
    • Oxtail
    • Curried goat (I can't stand the taste of lamb, so I'm pretty sure goat is out for me).
    • Black pudding
    • Sweetbreads
    • Haggis
    • Chitterlings, or andouillette
    • Roadkill
    • Horse

Stuff I've never heard of and have no idea what it is (maybe I need to get out more):
    • Epoisses
    • Bagna cauda (Based on the discussion above, it does sound pretty good, but I'm not sure I want to add another food to the list of foods I really like but can't eat. Maybe it's better not to know...)
    • Salted lassi
    • Phaal
    • Fugu
    • Umeboshi
    • Poutine
    • Kaolin
    • Currywurst
    • Durian
    • Gjetost, or brunost
    • Baijiu
    • Lapsang souchong
    • Bellini
    • Tom yum
    • Pocky
    • Criollo chocolate
  • Quote: Then I've definitely eaten it. For a while, before I lost weight, I should have bought stock in Rolaids. Every night I got the worst heart burn. I seriously used to buy the large bottles from Sam's and go through 2 a months.

    .
I was the same way, only it was Tums. I kept a bottle on my nightstand and would chew 2-3 before going to bed, and sometimes wake up to take some
