Not Noticing A Physical Difference!!

  • I've gone from my highest of 150 lbs down to 133 lbs and I still look the same! I don't notice any difference in my body size...still look fat! The numbers on the scale is going down but I still look chunky...grrrrrrrrr. Oh and I have been exercising so how come I don't see any physical differences?
  • Are you taking measurements? Sometimes the mind is slower to catch up with reality on how you look.

Also - take comparison photos to help you see the difference.
  • Same here, I've lost 28 lbs, 6 lbs away from 10%, and I'm still not noticing anything different... A couple people said they can see it a little in my face/neck area, however I think they just said that because I complained that I'm not noticing the change yet... hehe. I'm not stressing over it though, it will happen eventually!
  • comparision pics, measurements and the way your clothes fit are all ways to see where you're losing weight.

I didnt 'see' my weight loss (by being able to fit into smaller clothing) till I had lost nearly 60 pounds but people who saw me every day noticed a difference around 40 pounds lost. The more ya've got to lose the longer it can take to make a 'visable to your naked eye' difference/
  • I read somewhere a long time ago, that we lose weight from our head to our toes...in that order. So, that is why we notice the thinner face before we notice the thinner buttocks Give it time....it'll balance itself out!
  • What kind of exercise are you doing?

Your basic body shape probably won't change, but certain exercising can help somewhat.

  • I'm having the EXACT same dilemma. I've lost 19 pounds, and still feel as fat as ever. i have noticed that clothes are fitting more loosely, yet somehow I look exactly the same. I think we'll just have to wait for that "ah hah!" moment, when we catch a glimpse of ourselves in a mirror out of the corner of our eye, and suddenly those lovehandles are gone or our jaw is super defined. Our moment will come, we just have to be patient!

See, this is why I never worry too much when the numbers on the scale don't change. I take my measurements (see http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=147851 for my posts on how awesome that has been) and go by how my clothes fit and the comments I'm getting from others. So I *know* I've been making good progress, even when the scale stays the same or makes very little change.

I think we put far too much emphasis on what the numbers on the scale say, anyway.

That's not to say that you haven't done GREAT by having a 17-pound loss (That's AWESOME!!), but to say that there are other ways to measure success and THIS is a great reminder that we needn't be "married to the scale" in order to feel like we're doing good work.

So, be proud of yourself for the numbers and what they're showing you (that you HAVE made good progress) and now work on exercising differently or something that will really start to reshape your body in ways that are different from whatever it is you've been doing so far.

I had lost 2.5 inches off my waist just by dieting for five months. NO exercise. And then I started exercising. In THREE WEEKS I lost another 2.5 inches off my waist.

THAT is a huge difference and totally due to moving my body more, differently, consistently.

Hope this POV helps. Just wanted to talk about the importance in using SEVERAL means of measuring our progress, rather than getting married to only ONE way.

    Keep going!
  • That is interesting, because I noticed a difference in my face right off, but when I looked at my heaviest pictures vs. the ones I took after losing 18lbs I DID NOT see a difference.

I feel a difference, with my clothes but I don't think anyone can see a difference yet.
  • despite my numbers still slowly going down i am not seeing as much difference as before....
i think its because we see our selves everyday....
other people notice it in me before i do!....
  • Thank you so much for your feed back everyone! I'm just gonna continue working at it...because it wasn't too long ago I though it was incapable for me to lose weight! That was when I was in the 140's.
  • I don't see much of a difference either, but I can now fit into my size 18 jeans which had been too small. I can also see muscle development from the weight training I'm doing.

I know it'll take time, though, before the difference is drastic.

Just keep on keeping on. You'll get there.
