  • Ok, so maybe this is just because we're new to this this year and it's normal when large groups of males are gathered, but during my son's high school football practice yesterday evening, at one point, all the players were assembled on the far side of the practice field (farthest from the street) at the edge of a soybean field. The coaches were there and were talking to the players, but many of the players had their backs turned and appeared to be urinating, as they had the 'stance' and were adjusting their pants when they turned back around. A few minutes later, one of the coaches walked over towards a tree unzipping as he walked and proceeded to pee behind the tree.

Now, this is on a busy street, there are stat GIRLS on the field, and the high school is only about 400 yds away. Is this something to be concerned about? Or, is this just the norm as far as football and males go? Maybe I'm just a prude, but I was appalled.
  • Were they marking territory or something?

They should've just gone to the school for a quick pee-break if it was necessary. This isn't like they were playing on a mountain-top in the middle of the wilderness. A bathroom was rather close at hand. I can't see a girl being allowed to go out to the field to use the bathroom, why do the boys get to?

Not only that, but what if small children didn't know and then went to go play nearby after the game or something... icky.
  • my theory here is

"just because you can.... doesn't mean you should"
  • I really think you have every right to be appalled! If young males are being taught by somebody as influential as their coach that its okay to urinate in public then he is clearly deranging their perspective about what is 'acceptable'

They might like being crude but it's so inconsiderate when poor passerbyers like yourself have no choice in seeing such a thing. That coach and a group of young men when they should know better.

    I agree with that. Wholeheartedly.
  • I'm flabbergasted and believe the coach and the boys should be reprimanded!

I remember my son going off to boyscout camp. When he returned he informed me of their tradition to putting out the fires at night! EEEWWWW they ate off of those logs! I'm so glad my son always has been a bit shy of going in front of others and did not participate. I wish I could still say the same if he were to go today, but I can't. . I think he'd do it just for spite!

Can't say it better than that. Especially the coach!
  • [QUOTE=Faerie;2327975]Were they marking territory or something?

    i think they were.

I think its weird that they did that. Now don't get me wrong...i understand every now and then we have to go pee...and sometimes it requires us to go in the woods. And i have had to a few times...however, i don't think i would have done that out in the open like that.
  • Disgusting! This coach is a poor role model.
  • While I don't condone what they did, it isn't only done by your team. I've seen it happen at other practice fields when the bathroom is not anywhere near the field. I'm not saying that makes it right, but it is common practice.
  • Quote: Were they marking territory or something?
    Exactly what I was thinking

Yes, we think it's really eewwy and disgusting and all but I think it's one of those "guy things" we will never understand (or approve of). When I was in school, the guys had a *tradition* of "writing" their names in the snow (at least in the snow you had warning it was there )

Football has this whole "manly man" aura around it so maybe the coach thought he would get the testosterone flowing if they "marked their territory"
  • When I was working for a construction company several years ago we had a lady call very P'd off... one of our crew members was on a job near a school, and went to the bathroom right there near the school, and this lady seen him... oh she was fuming, and I couldn't blame her! I was embarrassed that one of our guys would do that. But then again, construction guys ARE pigs!
  • This is not acceptable behavior and should be reported. Athletes and coaches should set positive examples, and unless there was no bathroom available, it should not be tolerated.
  • Unacceptable. They could be charged with indecent exposure.
(I'm feeling very "Mrs. Grundy" lately and have lost all tolerance for tacky behaviour.)
  • I am a male

I have had to use a bush before

    I am in construction

We don't always have bathrooms on our sites, unfortunately

This incident shows a lack of respect to all who had to witness it

I am sorry you had to see this Ronni
