New to the site, new to dieting. Anyone have advice?

  • Hey all. I am new to the site. I really need and want to lose weight, as many of you do. I am 19 years old, entering my third year of college. I work part time at a sandwich shop (that does not help my dieting). I enjoy physical exercise such as biking, swimming, walking/jogging and others. I joined Curves gym about a month ago and lost 3 pounds. (Go me!) Does anyone have any advice for me or any tips to try to shed more lbs? I read a thread about Callanetics and I'm going to buy the dvd off of ebay and try it. Hope you all have a lovely night and thanks again!
  • Congrats on the weight loss! Are you on any particular diet plan? In my opinion I think that sticking to a plan helps out a lot. As far as the callanetics save your money, stick to going to the gym and getting your heart rate up that way.
  • Hi Erica! I agree with Boop - one thing you'll learn as you explore this site is that having a plan (that includes both eating and exercise) is crucial. You mentioned going to Curves (which is great!), but you didn't say anything about what you're eating.

I personally have been pretty successful counting calories, but there are many, many options - and a forum dedicated to every one of them. Look around and let us know what you decide to do.

    Good luck!
  • I am 19 and new too i am going bob greene's best life diet it is a way to transform your life
  • hi erica
I would say stick with the exercise you enjoy, it'll make it less of a chore. And dont give up of course

Its been helping me a lot to keep a food diary because I usually forget what I eat during the day. Eating high volume foods also help so you don't go hungry all day.
  • Hey, I am relatively new as well, and just out of curiousity, how do you like Curves? I've heard a ton of mixed things so I was just wondering

can you expan on what high volume foods are? I have been having trouble finding things that are low calorie but that keep me going too...
  • My best piece of advice for dieting is to plan out your food intake in advance and make sure you have the food you should be eating available in your house so that you don't go out and blow it.

I like to pre-fill my food journal with the foods that I want to eat to keep within my calorie range. For example, if you know you're going out for pizza with friends, add the pizza and the soda in and then work around that. You can do an egg white omelet with veggies for breakfast that day so that you can save the calories for pizza.
