Hi there. Because of my low carb diet, I find that those store bought rotisserie chickens work best for my lifestyle. I can buy a whole chicken, cooked, and then use it for my salads, on its on with veggies, even soup broth. Thing is, my roommate just said that they are 'unhealthy' and I should do it myself.. Thoughts?

Read the labels. If it is a rotisserie chicken from a grocery store deli (where you get them hot) ask someone from the deli what they DO/ADD to them.

One rotisserie chicken might have a bunch of sodium and things added, while others might not.

I'm with Aphil. I know my local grocery store doesn't inject their rotisserie chickens - they just season the outside with a mix of olive oil, salt, pepper, and lemon zest, herbs, and spices. I'm pretty sure that Safeway birds do have some sort of flavoring injection.

My favorite rotisserie chickens are DEFINITELY from Costco, but I don't know what the ingredients are. Most chickens should have an ingredient label, though, which'll tell you if anything untoward is going on.

Have you ever tried making them in the bags?? They have these packets that come with a baking bag and seasoning.. just pop them in the oven for a couple hours and whammo delicious!

lurking, b/c I get those costco chickens for dinner every few weeks. I hope they are okay, I espec hope that they do not have MSG or any chemicals. I looked at the price of whole chcikens, and the cooked ones at Costco are almost as cheap as buying it and cookign it yourslef. ANd they are YUMMY and easy!
