I'm a dreamer, but is this too much?

  • My ideal weight is apparently 53-58kg (about 116-127lb). Would this even be possible for me to obtain? That would mean losing about 35% of my starting weight. I was planning on losing 20kg, would losing another extra 10kg be too hard? I cannot remember ever being below 60kg. Is this dream too much?
  • I don't know how hard it would be, but I do know that my sister is your height and is 132. When she is strict with working out she is 120ish. I would say get the 20 gone and then see if you want to go down another 10. It could very well be that you may not want to.
  • I agree with Sephyfowl...after the 20, reassess the situation. My friend is about your height and she prefers to be around 130-140. She got down to 120 and didn't like the way she looked. Said her butt was too small and her boobs shrunk. ;-)
  • I'm the same height as you and am aiming for 140. I'm planning to reassess when I get there - see how comfortable I feel in my skin, determine whether or not I feel like I need to lose more.

I do think 120 is pretty low for someone our height, but not impossible, particularly if you have a small frame. Personally, I don't want to go any lower than 130.

    Nooo not the boobs!

thanks for the advice guys. I will probably wait until i have lost 20kg and then see. I heard though that you probably cant expect to weigh less than you did in adolescence, is there any truth to that?
  • I agree with everyone else.

I also sort of have the same thing.. I don't really know where to put my goal weight. I feel like if I lose 30 more lbs from where I am now I'll be TINNNNNY, but that's apparently around where my healthy weight range is. I'm trying to be more based on how I'm feeling/looking than what the numbers are. I'm constantly re-assessing.
  • Yeah, I'm kind of in the same boat. I'm 5' 10 and admittedly I have a rather large frame, so my initial goal is 180 lbs but I start to worry about how I would look being any smaller than that.

I would guess that it depends on whether or not you were overweight as an adolescent. I was in the 130-140 range throughout my adolescence, and that's where I'm hoping to end up.

I did hear (from my boyfriend, a biologist/science junky) that it tends to be difficult for people to lose and keep off more than 1/3 of their starting weight, though there are obviously many maintainers at 3FC who've managed to do so.

I think weight loss is so individual that it's difficult to predict what your body will healthfully allow you to do until you get there.
  • I think that your weight goals are attainable for someone in our height range. It all depends how your a built if you whether you are pear shaped, apple..etc. You will see how you feel when you get close to your weight to know how comfortable you feel in your own skin.
  • this is all very good advice. The hardest part is waiting to see what i feel like when i get down 20kg! Is it more difficult to lose and keep off a third of your body weight than it is to lose and keep off any amount of weight? Im just wondering if the third makes it special....i would have thought that losing and maintaing a loss of any kind should be just as hard but what do i know >.<
  • I agree with the overwhelming sentiment. Set smaller goals for yourself...that way your not focused on getting to 120 lbs your only focused on loosing 20. Which is much more attainable.
  • i too am in the same boat....
im 3lb from the overall goal i originally set....
but i still think i will be a lil too big for my liking....
i dont know if 133 or 126 ahould be my new target....
i guess its a matter of getting to 133 and assessing again....
i wonder how many people stick to their original goals they make when they are bigger....
  • I think she was just saying that it is hard for people to lost MORE than 1/3 and maintain. Not that just the 1/3 is special. I agree with you it's hard to do at any poundage. I think once we get into a healthy lifestyle it will come more easy and the longer we are in that lifestyle it will get easier as the days pass.

Exactly. And take it worth a grain of salt.
