upset and confused

  • I was so ecstatic when I weighed myself Monday morning. I had gone out to eat twice over the weekend and still managed to lose! The number on the scale said 200.8lbs. I was excited, but so exhausted.

    Over the weekend I had been sleeping in until almost noon, which is VERY unlike me. I'm always up by 9:30/10am LATEST on the weekends. I havent been staying up any later than usual, I always get the perfect amount of sleep.This week I have been so SO tired that I get dizzy when I get up to fast or bend down and then right myself. I almost threw up while working out that monday because I was so light headed. I figured maybe I had been working myself too hard so I decided to take it kinda of easy this week. Just some nice walks and no strength training.

    I like to weigh myself every morning right after I wake up and go to the bathroom. Every little 1/4 of a lb lost is really motivating to me. But I was shocked Tuesday when I woke up and had gained 1 1/2 pounds!!!! In only 24 hours! My diet/caloric intake hasnt changed or anything. Now its Friday and I've shot up to 206.5.

    WHAT THE CRAP!!! I'm so upset. I dont understand! I havent changed my diet, I've been so tired I can function, I've gained over five pounds in five days. My TOM isnt for another week, and I have NEVER NEVER gained this much weight so quickly from water retention.

    I'm upset, confused, and definitely concerned. I have no idea what is happening. My body has taken on a mind of its own and just isnt listening to me! I feel completely disjointed from my physical self. I'm so confused
  • Sometimes we retain fluids or experience inflammation for a variety of reasons. Don't stress!

  • I tend to retain a lot of water when I am sick and nauseous. Maybe this is what happening to you. I used to suffer from gastroenteritis in the summer and during the first days I would literary inflate from the water my body was trying to save.
  • THat has happened to me a few times since I have been on this journey! DOnt sweat it just get back up and keep going. You can do it. I hope you feel better!
  • There are so many things that can cause that. PMS, water retnetion, maybe just the food in your belly wasn't quite as digested, your last time you went potty....

    Try not to get discouraged. I am worried about you feeling sick- make sure you are getting your iron and Vit. C!

  • the only time i felt exhausted like how you are describing - i had mono. it was horrible, i was falling asleep alot. do't worry about the weight gain, it could be swelling as they said above. Keep up the good work and it will pay off soon.

  • It could be so many different factors. 1 week prior to TOM is when I'm most bloated. Also, eating out may catch up with you later...not right away, so just watch out for that happening. Finally, maybe you're not eating enough calories? Being lightheaded and fatigued are signs of that. How many calories are you eating? Try to eat at least at your Resting Metabolic Rate (you can calculate via a Google search for RMR). Good luck and hang in there!
  • My TOM is really horrible. Usually you lose a ton of weight, if not the most, within the first week of "dieting." Not me. I didn't lose a single pound. Why? TOM!!!!

    PMS could just be hitting you really hard this month. If that's the case, just think. . . in about a week all the weight you lost PLUS this PMS weight will both disappear and you'll see a big difference on the scale.
  • My first question to is are you eating enough? Dizzy spells could be caused by not eating enough.

    Second question: Have you added any food to your diet that you haven't been eating on a regular basis? Allergies?

    I learned from my trainer that on any given day a female can retain up to five pounds of water. So I wouldn't worry about that. Watch your sodium levels - maybe by fake salt to salt your food with (I have AlsoSalt and can't tell a difference) and also the best cure for water retention is water so make sure you are still drinking enough.

    And lastly - go see your doctor if it continues. I always make an appointment to my doctor if I ever feel like something is off - I learned that here on 3fc. It has never been anything major but for me I totally feel better after hearing that I am okay from my doctor.

  • i fluctuate insanely, i can go up or down by more than a kilo in the space of 24 hours (thats about 2.2 lbs). Dont stress it! If you are eating well and exercising then it will happen. And i support the idea of seeing your doctor if you dont start feeling better soon

    Joking aside, is there any chance you are pregnant? What you've described certainly sounds like I felt in both my pregnancies.

  • If it keeps up I'd make an appointment to get some bloodwork done. That's how I felt when my thyroid got out of whack and, I hate to be the 3rd to say it but, it's also how I felt when I was first pregnant.
