Forever Fat...

  • I've been on WW since January (recently gave up a couple months ago) because I only lost 30 lbs! Thats it ... Since January!!! What am I doing wrong? I've decided it's within my best interest to sign back up with WW only because I have to lose 85 lbs or so! I know that isn't much, but it seems like a HUGE amount! What to do... What to do... There's a WW here in Medicine Hat, so I have to go there, and talk to them.

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? I'm thinking I'm going to sign up to Curves. There's one not too far, or there's a rec centre, where I'm sure I could go do my Aquafit classes again... Or both at that. Work out at Curves 3 x's a week, and do Aquafit 2 x's a week that way my body gets the best of both. Yes? No?

    HELP!!!! I'm Stuck.
  • Here's what to do: don't give up!!! If you already lost 30 lbs before stopping a couple months ago, it sounds like you were doing well! I think the only thing you're doing wrong is expecting it to happen faster. Of course it would be nice if the weight just magically disappeared, but unfortunately, it just doesn't work that way. It took time to gain it and it takes time to lose it.

Adding exercise into the mix is certainly a good idea, but just don't be discouraged about what you've already accomplished! 30 lbs gone is awesome! Hang in there!
  • I thought I hit a plateau too. But.....I started to do the food diary again and pow! I had been eating 7 to 8 more points than I was allotted every day. Sometimes more than that. I was only maintaining, so I know how to do that really well. I am back on the diary and have lost a couple pounds so far this week. I thought I could keep track in my head, but that obviously didn't work. I had been eating a little of this, a little of that, thinking one or two bites probably isn't even a point. Wrong! I think eight or nine little bites every day were a lot more than I thought.

Wait a minute...what?! You lost 30 lbs.! That's great! Would you have lost 30 lbs. if you HADN'T been doing WW during that time? Have you lost another 10 lbs. since you 'gave up'?

If not, than stick with it! Would you rather lose another 30 lbs. (more or less) over the next six months, or maintain your current weight? Or even perhaps gain?

Starting an exercise program is a great idea. If you do that and return to your plan, you will see results. It may not happen overnight, but it will happen! Keep up the great work!
  • I agree with the others! Congrats on the loss I think the only thing you did "wrong" was to give up don't give up - time clicks by no matter what and as you said you gave up a few months ago...what would have/could have happened if you continued your program in those couple of months? You would have continued losing!!! Do whatever you have to but please don't give up following your eating plan
  • Wow! You lost 30 pounds since January and that was before you quit a couple months ago. So you lost 30 pounds in 5 months. Allowing for a large drop the first couple of weeks and then a steady 1 pound a week, you are right on track. I say reset your expectations and rejoin! You were doing great! At that rate it will take you about one more year to lose it all.

Adding in exercise will help tone you and make you look like you've lost even more.

I'd recommend also starting to take a look in the maintainers forum so you start thinking about what it will be like to keep it off once you've lost it. A year of losing sure beats a year of staying the same or a year of gaining.
  • congrats on your 30!!!

i hate to contradict, but in reference to the poster that discovered 8 additional points---it may be why she was struggling but not necessarily why you are b/c the ww core program does not limit a persons food intake and it woprks. sounds to me like youre not eating enough points.
  • Oh, wow! Congrats on the 30 lbs!

I agree with the others; the biggest problem I can see is quitting. That was 30 lbs in probably about 4 or 5 mos. Nothing wrong with that at all. I started in April and I'm still hanging around a 10 lb loss since then. Do I wish that I could be 15 or 20 lbs down instead of that? Of course! But I'm so happy to have lost what I have so far. I'm learning patterns in my loss, and areas I need to work on. Areas that have caused me to not lose how I probably could.

Adding in exercise would be helpful, I'm sure (as it would be helpful to me!). I definitely think you should give it another whirl...just be more patient this time around. 30 lbs is fantastic! Think of 30 lbs of butter. Or 6 5-lb bags of sugar. That's fabulous!!
