I survived my tonsilectomy!

  • this is my second evening at home... until yesterday evening, i'd been staying with my parents since last wednesday when i had my tonsils and adenoids removed. from what i can tell, i was lucky... the recovery was rough, but it could have been much worse. it's day 10 now and i've been eating real foods for most of this week (in small quantities and very, very slowly, lol)... lost about ten pounds that i'm hoping to keep off... and i'm off all drugs but OTC tylenol (thank goodness.... the hydrocodone was an experience)

only weird thing is that even though i'm eating all normal foods... two of my big binge foods don't taste right anymore (they say it's a side effect of the medicine...?) but call me crazy - soda and chocolate taste more like metal. weird, huh?

oh well... just had to post something... I still have a week of doing nothing according to my dr's orders... looking to get back on the wagon with my new-found loss and keep on rolling!
  • Oh get well soon! Weird thing about the change in taste.
  • Ok, weight loss- great! (but unfortunately a uncomfortable way to obtain it!) binge foods taste like metal- great! (though, again, wouldn't want that experience for myself!).
Excellent to hear that you are doing well!!
  • Yay! I am glad you are doing so well - and yay for the 10 pounds!

The taste will come back - it did for me. I think what happens is some of the taste buds die (I think) and will come back within time.
  • it happens when i get a cold....
    my taste buds will go....

    well done with the loss....
not an ideal way to achieve it but a loss all the same!....
  • Told ya you'd be alright!!! Yeah I know chocolate does taste like metal. Something to do with the back of your throat after the procedure. I felt the same. In another week or two you'll be right as rain, but that 2 weeks after the surgery is a good time to relax. When you can eat regularly again, you may find your craving for large portions has gone down!
  • I'm glad to hear it went ok, I hope the recovery is speedy!
