Anyone for Atkins?

  • Hi all
I'm on week 4 of Atkins and doing well so far.
I did it very successfukky a few years ago when it was trendy, but its much harder to get Atkins type stuff these days as its not fashionable anymore!
just wondering if anyone else is an Atkins fan?

  • hi there!

ive recently come off of atkins as the induction just did not work... id done it before and it worked but not this time

    good luck!
  • I'm living proof it works when its done correctly. All that "Atkins type stuff" is a no-no. Induction is about clean eating, exactly the way its written in the book, concentrating mainly on veggies & salad, and eating absolutely nothing that is not on the acceptable foods list.
  • i've been on an off since september and i'm down 3 stone. just dipped below 20 stone today. i do find after about 3 weeks on it, i stop losing weight so i have a day off and blitz the carbs then start induction the next day. more often than not i find that a day or two after my blitz i've lost a good lb or 2. i think its good to do this as the body needs carbs to metabolise fat. so putting a few in once and a while
  • Thanks for the replies
I know the Atkins type stuff is a no-no during induction, but 4 weeks in I like to allow myself the odd treat now and again...just not as easy to find things these days...not over here anyway.
I previously lost 3 stone with Atkins and managed to keep it off for a couple of years before it gradually slipped back on. I'm quite a seasoned Atkinser...and I know it works for me...just have to get used to having a few days with no weight loss now and again...knowing that a "whoosh" is just around the corner!!
OOps...just realised I spelt successfully VERY wrongly on my first post...must remember to check typing before I hit "post"
  • I honestly don't believe in it, but thats just my personal opinion. I think depriving yourself of types of food cause mental imbalance and usually cravings, and losing weight should be about foods in moderation not erasure. Though whatever works for you and is successful you should stick to.
  • Atkins has gotten a bad rap for years...mainly because people are misinformed & rely on hearsay. Atkins Induction (the 1st phase of the program) is quite strict, 20 grams of carbs per day, 12-15 of those carbs to come from salad & non-starchy veggies. Bread, pasta, rice & potatoes are to be avoided. However, in the later phases of Atkins...OWL (On Going Weight Loss), Pre-Maintenance and Maintenance...these foods are not eliminated, they are slowly added back in to this way of eating.
  • just to make a big pointer out of what jerseygirl said, induction is 20g NET depending on how you work you food this can mean yoru actual carb intake per day can be very high, for example the cereal i eat is 20g carb but 15 fiber making it 5g per bowl. then served with unsweetend soya makes it net 3g per bowl. if i just ate this all day i could have 6 bowls so 120g carbs in teh day and still be on buget with net carbs at 18
