how to fit more calories?

  • My husband and i have just started day 1 of Jillian Michaels Making the Cut. That workout was killer. The only question i have is....if my husband needs to eat more calories (needs about 1900 - 2000) where do i fit them in the menu? we are going off her planned menu, but when and how much more calories should he eat?
  • Oh - what a nice problem to have

It's easy to add heart-healthy, calorically dense items to most dishes. A couple of slices of avocado on a turkey sandwich, a sprinkle of walnuts on oatmeal, some cashews in a stir fry, a home-made salad dressing made with a good quality oil (like walnut oil), a couple of tablespoons of almond butter with a sliced apple - you get the idea
  • I don't know Jillian Michaels diet at all, so I don't know really what specific things to mention, but I agree with Glory, that it is easy to add a little healthy oils and fats to boost calories. A serving of almonds or sunflower seeds, a little olive oil, 1/4 of an avocado, some yogurt, etc.

Tonight I"m struggling with meeting my minimum, so what I"m going to do is whip some silken tofu with some honey and have a bit of that on a small bowl of frozen fruit. Just an idea.

    .
  • Could your husband just eat slightly larger portions than you eat? I'm also not familiar with her diet, but it seems like that might be an easy solution. You'd both be eating the same foods, he'd just be eating more. That way you don't have to buy special foods for him (and then have to keep yourself from eating them).
  • I agree. Have him add an extra portion of ONE THING to each meal-about 100 calories or so more per meal. This will bring his calories up enough.

If breakfast for you is an egg, yogurt, and a piece of fruit...then he can have the same, with 2 eggs, or a double portion of fruit. One thing extra.

Do the same with lunch, and dinner. It will keep him on plan, but give him a slightly higher calorie count.
