lane swimming in bikini - okay?

  • Is that appropriate? I don't think I've ever seen anybody lane swim in a bikini before.
I was thinking of hitting up the pool to spice up my workouts a bit but my old swimsuit is too small for me and all I have are bikinis.
    Input would be lovely. THanks!
  • I don't think there's anything special about lane swimming that requires a more modest swimsuit (unless the bikini is one prone to slippage). If there will be other bikinis at the pool, just not in the lane, I don't see any problem.

However, if there's another reason (no one else wears bikinis at the pool or time in question, perhaps because it's a time when more older people are there...) that a bikini wouldn't be appropriatate for the pool, you might consider a t-shirt coverup.
  • oh i think its fine, i see poeple lap swiming in bikini and tanktinis all the time. As long as you can swim with out it falling off
  • No problem, I see women at the local pool lap swimming in bikinis, so go for it!
  • I don't think its a problem unless the dress code says no bikinis.
  • I think it's fine. I just bought a two-piece to wear for lap swimming and I really like it. There are a few people at my pool that wear bikinis for lap swimming.

I think the reason most people don't wear them is that a lot of bikinis aren't really designed for activity, they are designed for sitting in a deck chair getting sun. Hence, they don't tend to stay in place when actually swimming. But so long as you are comfortable in your bikini, then, by all means, wear it.
  • thanks everyone!!
it's what i'll be wearing. I don't think the YMCA has a policy against it.
  • I think it's fine to wear a bikini also... I just wanted to add that if you wore a t-shirt on top of it, it would create way too much drag....
