I've been over 300 lbs. for a few years

  • Hi everyone. I thought I'd introduce myself since I am new here. My name is Susan, I'm 37 and I live in the Los Angeles area. I currently weight 308. I was probably around 340 or 350 this past January, but I got really sick in February and have basically been dieting since then. I joined Weight Watchers in March to get some support in this process. I found a meeting where I like the leader and there are some really nice people too. So that's cool!

I thought I would mention that I have been over 300 pounds since around 2000 or 2001. I have been heavy for so long that I really can't imagine what it will feel like to be lighter. My "ideal" weight is 153. I figure that it might take a couple of years (or longer) but I don't care. I want to be healthy and just do what I need to support my health on a daily basis.
  • The last time I was below 300 was when my 3 child was born in 2003. And I have fluctuated from 300-330 ever since. ave a great weekend!
  • I think you'll be happy you found this site. I've been coming in here once or twice a day for six weeks or so.... I read and post. There is a lot of great info and support here.. So many inspirational stories... Good Luck on your journey...

  • That's for both of you. This is a good place to start your weight loss. You'll get lots of help from the ladies here.
  • Well i am the highest in the group i weight a 346 , the past three weeks i have lost 6 pounds and the doc said that it is good because the six pounds i have kept off. It is great to see i am not the only one with a weight problem. I live in the province of Quebec Canada. The snow is gone now i can start the walking. Have a great day ...Valrudy....
  • Hi, Susan.

Like you, I also live in L.A. Also, like you, I was 308 and haven't been under 300 lbs since about 2002. I am an older lady with thyroid and pre-diabetic problems, but, in spite of everything, the weight is starting to go down. I actually started at 311 the middle of March, and as of last week, am under 300. So, just hang in there. If I can lose, anyone can. At least the weather here isn't too hot right now so is a good time to get out and walk - talking to myself as I am so lazy at times. Good luck.

    Welcome!!!

This is EXACTLY how I felt last year. I hadn't been under 200 for 15 years and much closer to 300 for most of that time. Just keep at it. It doesn't matter how fast or slow you get there. It's amazing how good say 250 feels when you're so used to being over 300. All the struggles... it's all very worth it.
  • Hello to both newbies, I'm a newbie too. Well, actually I used to post here a couple years back and have finally found my way back. It was always a wonderful supportive place to post. I hope to meet new people, get and give support and get healthy along the way. Oh, and my starting weight this time was 308, I am currently at 291.5
