Alberta here.
I am new to this site and am very impressed with it.
I have pcos, was diagnosed when I was 22 now I am 35, just had a total hysterectomy and ovaries removed 13 weeks ago. I wish that cured it but from what I have read it does not.

Well it's so nice to know that there is a fellow Canuck out there .. the doctors in Ontario really don't know what they are doing

I was diagnosed when I was 30 .. I had been TTC but that went out the window last year. I gave up and figure I am getting too old to want to have a child now. My DH had issues with his swimmers too .. they just couldnt do the lap

My doctor keeps a close eye on my paps .. abnormal cells ya know. I hate that phrase .. it makes me very nervouse. I think it will only be a matter of time before I have to have a hysterectomy. My doctor wont put me on BC because I smoke .. and I cant take Zyban to help quit smoking because I had seizures as a child .. I am allergic to the adhesive on the patch and the gum .. is just too nasty. But I am going to try to quit once the weather warms up.

Presently I am trying to low carb .. have to get rid of this extra person I keep carrying around. As of today I have lost 11 lbs .. go team me!!!

Have you had the same issues with your docs??

I am a canadian PCOS'er and also from Ontario, I have found that doctors have little or no expeirence when it comes to PCOS. Although I now have an appointment with a specialist at Mt Sanai hospital, she is supposed to be an expert on PCOS. I am also not on birth control, because I am allergic to one of the chemicals used in the bc pills. Have a great day

Here is my story:
Winnipeg here, by way of Philadelphia. I have lived in the states for 21 years and go home every year. I have PCOS, diagnosed at age 21. I was told i would never have children and my ovaries were the size of grapefruits. When I was 24 and 26, I spontaneously got pregnant, (my husband helped). We had tried fertility pills to no avail. When we gave up trying, that is when I got pregnant. The boys are exactly 2 years apart, and are age 17 and 19 now. I had C-sections and during both operations the doctors exposed my ovaries and they were smooth (no evidence of ovulation). I continued not using BC and never got pregnant again. I also have polycystic breasts which is real scary.
I have a weight problem and never knew that it was due to PCOS, until I read it here.

Hmmm--Bracebridge Ontario--as you can see by my signature I have been just diagnosed with PCOS about 3 weeks ago and put on Metformin--I hate the stuff and is giving me serious rock gut so I am going to see my OBGYN to get some new treatment. I have been getting fertility treatment since I want to have a brother or sister for my dd. It looks like Clomid may be my only option right now and hopefully some other type of medication to offset the PCOS.

Hi Pooky .. I guess we have more in common than the low carb!! Don't give up on the met .. it will get better or so I am told. My doctor knows jack about PCO's so that is where my struggle is .. low carb is great for PCO's and many women do become prego once they lose some weight and use some fertility meds!! You go girl!!!

Hey, I'm also in the "Big Sky Country" (aka Alberta!) nice to see I'm not the only one out here. I've been disgnosed since 1993 or so (wow, never did the math before, that's a long time!) but really haven't done much about it. Was on clomid for awhile TTC several years ago, but it was just way too expensive at the time (I hear it's cheaper now), and I was worried about having litters! Just as well, since we divorced in '96 over other non-related stuff that woulda killed the marriage even if we'd had kids. However, I do have a daughter from when I was young and too stupid to be this blessed. She'll be 12 the end of this month, and I am so grateful.

Over the years, docs have put me on various bc pills, but I just don't react to them well. I'm still dealing with the facila hair, but trust me, unless you have NO OTHER OPTION, do NOT (for the love of God, NOT!!!) shave your face! It will grow in thicker and meaner than ever after awhile. Especially since it's a hormone immbalance that put it there in the first place. I've been trying plucking with the new smooth legs Curel lotion, and I can't believe it, but it's actually working.

Otherwise, I'm on WW, and not happy, stuck at 4.4lbs loss, at week 5. Thinking about trying the low-carb thing, since eating like a caveman sounds quite appealing! I can lose the popcorn and pizza, but I'll miss the peanut butter toast!

Actually, I finally have a great GP. Took a long time to find a new one after my old one retired, but I'm finally in luck. We were just at the point of trying some treatments (other than the pill) for some of this stuff, but I've come down with some REALLY funky symptoms that we are in the process of investigating for MS. I've got an MRI in August scheduled, and after that, once we figure out what the #$@!@@! is going on, then we'll revisit the PCOS thing again. The facial hair is a pain, but I'm more concerned lately with my weight, since I quit smoking in November and have gained 45 lbs since. I'm now at 216, and it's become a real issue, especially with the other stuff that's not helping, since now I'm not allowed to excercise until we figure this out, and it's making it a lot harder to deal with. Any idea where I can find more info on the low-carb diet? I am definetly a "moderation" kind of eater, so not "ultra-low", but I need to know how I can balance it all out.
