What does it mean when...

  • a man says "you're really good looking?" AND... you're a woman? I'm sorta confused by that - lol You don't hear people say a woman is good looking so often.

    Any takes on that?
  • Are you objecting to the terminology? I agree "pretty" or "gorgeous" or "beautiful" might be better but maybe he's shy! Just accept the compliment - they are few and far between. I sure wouldn't lose any sleep over it!
  • I'm not objecting to the terminology, nor losing any sleep over it. I'm just curious to know what others "take" on it is. As I said, its not an expression you hear often & hey, I'm a very analytical person... I like to pick things apart
  • I think you're trying to analize it too much. I think he meant that you look good.

  • He thinks you are very attractive I think a lot of guys might use this terminology when they are unsure of what will offend a woman or not. So, he was being polite and old fashioned- that is my take on it anyway

  • Maybe it's a regional thing, because in the midwest, at least where I live and grew up "good looking" is commonly used for both genders, and it means the same - attractive.
  • Yeah - I wouldn't think twice about it, it seems like a straightforward compliment to me. It does get used commonly by people I know, too, so it doesn't strike me as odd.

    He's attracted to you.
  • I have to agree, I think it was a compliment. Be happy for it!
  • He means you're a "looker". I've heard that term used before, it may be a bit out of date, but it seems more polite then "You're HOT!" At least to me it does...
  • I think the context and the delivery will tell you much more about what it meant than what was actually said.

If it was said politely by a collegue or said in a flirty tone by a guy hitting on you at a bar determines alot.
  • Thanks for the responses all - and for helping me to "understand" (not rocket science, I know!).
