Wow, I just filled up my tank, and it cost $3.50 a gallon for regular unleaded. We are definitely headed for $4 this summer...

I hate how the price of fuel affects EVERYTHING. Travel, utilities, food, entertainment... Talk about putting all our eggs in one basket. And it just kills me how we're built society around the automobile. I live on a major route and I can't walk ANYWHERE for fear of being mowed down by some SUV. So for 1/4 mile trips to the grocery store, I have to get in my car and use up fuel instead of burning my own calories which could be helping me lose weight. I see a major connection between our dependence on fuel and the obesity crisis.

Maybe . . . just maybe . . . I can make you feel a little tiny bit better . . . or maybe not. Our gas in Nova Scotia just hit $1.28 per litre (that's a quart, gang). In other words we are already over $5.00 a gallon.

PS -- I think there is definitely a connection -- and a very hard one to break.

It's already $4 a gallon in southern California.

Last I checked it was around $3.70 here in Washington. I just bought and had tuned a used bike. I just need a lock, helmet, and basket and I'm all set. We are lucky in some ways that we live in a small town, we can walk (although people will nearly mow you over here too) or bike everywhere unless we leave town.

Yeah, I'm buying a Honda Nighthawk. About 60 mpg. WOO! I'm sooo excited.

I was so bummed yesterday- $70.00 to fill my tank. I dread this summer. I'd love to buy one of those cute Smart Cars or a scooter- it would make so much sense.

I'm going to become Amish and only have to buy hay for my horses.

I got lucky today SOULBLISS! I only paid $3.97 a gallon for 87!...so lucky.....

The good thing...I am working in Loma Linda next week...only a 150 mile round trip for me...............

i'm not trying to be funny here, but all my friends seem to think this is a joke, when i mention it, but i have an idea, for the town folk anyway.
why don't they legalize golf carts for inside city limits?!
i mean i'd pay for a plate on an electric golf cart, i'd even pay to install blinkers and headlights!

On Thursday, the gas price fell from $1.17 per litre to $1.12 - and I could not get a drop because I had to fill up the day before. On Friday, the price jumped to $1.20. My daily commute is less than 30 km, but still .... it affects food and everything else.

I think the golf cart idea would work. In some retirement communities (my in laws live in Sun City, AZ) golf carts are legal in the smaller city limits.

My husband is already talking about selling both vans and buying a motorcycle to get to work (he works less than 5 miles from home).

Gas prices are insane. And only going to get more so.

I like the golf cart idea. Or motorcycles, or mopeds. I mean, why do I need to drive this enormous car that can carry 5 people and a trunk full of luggage to work everyday? I just need something that will transport ME and my purse. All that unnecessary space just uses up more gas, causes more traffic. I sit in stop and go traffic all the way to and from work (14 miles -- takes me 45 minutes each way). I sit there in traffic and look to my left and right, and all I see are single occupant vehicles. Enormous cars, SUVs, and trucks carrying ONE person! It's mind boggling.

I'm not sure what a gallon of milk costs these days... I buy milk, but it's one of those necessities where I don't even look at that price because I have to buy it whether it's expensive or not. But my guess is it's probably around $4 - $4.50 a gallon. I'm going to the supermarket today, so if I remember, I'll look at the price and report back.

Minnesota (Twin Cities) here: I always thought we were one of the cheaper gas states but we're now up to $3.24/gallon
