Unlimited cell phone plan from USA to Canada? Anyone know?

  • So, I live in the states and my best friend/ex boyfriend (it's a complicated relationship...) lives in Canada. Does anyone know of a cell phone carrier who has an unlimited plan to Canada? The best I can find is like .09 cents a minute with a monthly fee. And I talk to him way too much for that... Anyone? Thanks.
  • If both of you have high speed internet access, you might consider skype.com
It's a phone service (sort of like Vonage) and you pay seperately for incoming service and outgoing service. Unlimited incoming I believe is like 40 dollars a quarter or something like that, and outgoing calls are about 2 cents per minute anywhere in the world. And calling another skype customer is free. The really nice thing is that you pay upfront before service, much like a calling card, so there's no nasty bill surprises. For outgoing calls for example, we buy about $10 worth at a time (it usually lasts about two months). I think it comes directly out of our bank account (or we might have it set up through Pay Pal). Then when you are getting close to running out of minutes, you will get an email reminder to purchase more.

My husband and I just use a headset, but you can buy phones through the website, or at Walmart that just plug into the back of your computer. They also have good customer service for problems or to walk you through set up and such if you need it.
  • I am in the exact same spot as you, except reversed. My best friend lives in the USA, and I'm in Canada. I did find this site called jajah.com, and they give you free minutes a week. What you do is register your number with an account, have him register his, and then say you want to call him, enter YOUR number, then his number, and press CALL. Then YOUR actual phone will ring, you pick up and they'll ring his phone. So basically neither pay since long distance calling, the person who calls pays obviously. They just ask you don't abuse it and go over a certain amount a week.

Another option like said is Skype. We use that a lot, it's free and pretty good quality provided you have high speed. There's also Gizmo, another good one.
