does salad give u ulcers?!

  • hi i'm new and a uk fat chick and i love eating salad and could happily eat it daily, but the only thing is that it gives me mouth ulcers, possibly due to the acidity in the veg? Does anyone else find this?
  • I can't say that I have ever really suffered with mouth ulcers before but I have them at the moment, probably due to being under the weather . i eat a lot of salad and have found that eating tomatoes etc the last couple of days has been unbearable, I have actually been leaving food on my plate............now this is unheard of!!
Wonder what the scales will say tonight.should be interesting.

Claire you have my sympathy cos i love salad too and dont know how i will feel if i cant fill up on my free veggies
  • Is it just raw vegetables that do this, and not cooked? I wonder if it could be pesticides or additives causing it. If it is the veggies, you might try using different ingredients to see if you can pinpoint it to one type. Instead of lettuce, try fresh baby spinach leaves.

If you buy the bagged, pre-washed and cut salad, try getting fresh greens and cleaning it yourself, in case it could be some additive in the bagged lettuce. Even if the prewashed salad package states that they don't add additives to it, the liquid used to clean the salad actually contains a very diluted bleach.
  • why not try organic? you can get it in most supermarkets now , or if theres a farm close to you that deals in organics they may have a farm shop where you can buy it straight from the field so to speak
  • I don't get mouth ulcers with salad, but I get them badly with pineapple. I think its an allergic reaction to it. My sister gets them if she eats cheese. You could try pinpointing which bit of the salad it is that's causing them by leaving out one ingredient at a time and then just leaving out that item from all future salads.

    Good luck!
  • Tomatoes. I can’t eat more then 2 normal tomatoes without getting mouth ulcers. I can eat millions of the cherry ones though with no problems.

I love pineapple but it doesn’t love me either.

  • Gosh - there was I thinking I was the only one that suffered with fizzy pineapple mouth. I can only eat so much of the stuff and I adore the fresh kind.

I can assure with all confidence that I will never eat enough salad to suffer from mouth ulcers
