My trusty old Conair hair dryer just died, after DH used it to dry the floor mats in his car. So I'm in the market for a new one. I have short, naturally curly hair and use a diffuser. Are all hair dryers alike? What should I look for? Are any models/types better for curly hair? Or should I just shop for price? Any and all recommendations welcome!

If you were happy with the Conair, why not just get another one?

I love my Conair Ion Shine (or something like that). My gym has the same one, with a difuser, and it's just as great. I have super thick hair and it only takes a few minutes to dry.

I have a dryer called CurlEnvy, and it came with a diffuser. I *think* it is by Remington maybe?

I have wavy hair...and I have the option of letting it go natural, or using a diffuser and scrunching it for more curl, or taking off the diffuser and blowing it out straight.

I have this one and LOVE IT !!!! they also sell attachments for curly hair (which you know I have for Miss G.).

Let me chime in and mention I purchased a conair which is compact. When I was in the store I specifically asked the helper if I could use my diffuser with it. They said, "absolutely..."

Absolutely not!

Just a reminder-- don't get compact models. Although they take less space and can pack easily..... the diffusers need a smaller diameter attachment, which conair power compact does not have.

My old hairdryer just "died" too. I found a Conair Ionic Ceramic Cord-Keeper for under $20 at Target. It comes with a diffuser and a concentrator. The thing I like about it is the cord retracts with the push of a button. It does have a slightly shorter cord than I'm used to, but I love not having to deal with the cord when I store it. It has 1875 watts of power, 3 heat settings and 2 speeds.

Ohhhh, I have one by CHI, they're sort of expensive, but worth it! Like the Mercedes of hairdryers. I trade services with a hairdresser and she bought mine. I got one for MIL at Christmas and she loves hers.

Thanks, Anne, for the information about the cordless hair dryer. Mine is still alive, but it's OLD. I'm always afraid I will wake up one morning and it just won't start up! I think I will get one of these for back up. Does the ionic part really make a difference?

It doesn't seem any different to me. I think it's supposed to be less drying, or make hair shinier.
