Lace With Leather (Decorating!)

  • Just furnished a room with leather sofas, and was thinking of using a cream lace valance on a huge window. Don't want to cover up the view with any other curtain. The sofas are burgundy leather. Would lace with leather be too weird? I'm a lace-lover!
  • BABE!! A new topic for us!

I think that sounds very pretty. The leather is masculine and the lace adds a feminine feel to it. And whenever you have someone over, you have to have the song from Stevie Nicks playing on the stereo and see if they notice. Send pictures!!

By the way, I'm rooting for the Calgary Flames through the playoffs. They're the only team I don't have it out for for some reason or other. And, besides, I think the Cup is missing some good ole Canadian snow after two years amongst warm weather.

    Okay, back to the redecorating!
  • I think the Leather & Lace is a really neat combination What's the harm in trying it out? Or ... even being a little weird?
  • I would have to see photos of the room, and the sofa to make a judgement. Do you have a digital camera?

When I think of leather sofas though, I think of either masculine (like sofas, etc. you would see in a den, office, etc.) or I think more modern styles. I am not sure which your sofa falls into just yet.

When I think of lace, however, I think of country styles, shabby chic styles, romantic/Victorian styles...

I don't know that I would personally like the combination. It would be like mixing stainless appliances (modern) with country blue and country mauve colors...two things that wouldn't mesh well.
  • Ditto what Aphil said...love lace and I love leather couches/furniture but not together. I do think it would look weird, no offense to you...jmho.
  • Me, personally, I still think it would be a nice blend of textures...jmho.
  • Thanks for all opinions, girls. (Hi, techwife ... nice to see ya HERE ... ) Actually, I saw an article in a magazine once (that supermarket woman's weekly, I think), advocating leather with lace, and they had some pretty photos, like a lace shawl draped over the end of the sofa. I've decided my DH wouldn't go for it, so I'm not going to try it, but I personally probably would like it. The furniture by the way is masculine and big/puffy and clubby, definitely not modern. Thanks again, all!
