i was just looking for some advice from someone who is currently taking rx weight loss meds or who has done it in the past. i was wondering how successful you felt it was and at what point did you decide you needed rx help. i am not one to try every "miracle pill" or weird diet but i feel like i have been on the ride too long and i am ready to start losing weight. maybe i need some extra help. i have to go to the doc on friday anyway so i am just trying to decide if this is something i need to bring up then. i am just very frustrated. i know drugs aren't always the answer, but i also know that some people have had great success on meds, just a little extra help.
anyway, everyone feel free to comment. good or bad, for or against, i would like to "hear" it all.
thanks,
I lost 110 pounds on Phentermine...only to be diagnosed with hypertension and orthstatic hypotension...so after enough times of about passing out whenever i would stand up and the fact that i could never sleep more than 1 hour at a time at night. I decided, well, i have been on it long enough...so i went off of it and slowly gained each and every pound back. Now i am stuck with blood pressure and heart issues because of it...it was great while i was losing...not so great once i came off it.
Meridia is useless.
Xenical and Ally are great for those that like anal leakage....i imagine that would be wonderful especially while at work or out in public.
Those are the only ones i know anything about.
I've been taking atro-phex and been having great success with it.
I took Xenical when it first came out to "jump start" my diet. I never had "anal leakage" but, I followed a low fat diet & didn't cheat. After about 2-3 months, I quit taking it because I had built new habits and didn't need it anymore. I ended up losing about 30 pounds w/Xenical and another 60 without it---of course, over the years, it's come back but I reverted to bad habits.
I took phentermine once, from a friend (you can buy it on the net, but expensive!) and used it sporadically, so the weight would fluctuate.
I recently saw my doctor and she prescribed it. I go in every week for weight and vital signs. She told me right from the start, this wouldn't be an ongoing strategy, but rather a method to control my appetite while I learn to make healthier food choices, portion control and increase my exercise. So far, after about 3 weeks on this plan, I am happy with it. I would say trust what your physician thinks, it's not for everyone. Good luck!
