scale shopping advice?

  • Hi all -- I want to buy two sets of digital scales (one to weigh ME and one to weigh food) and would appreciate any advice you all can offer. Brand names to look for (or avoid)? Features that are important? (Especially on the food scales, which I have never owned before.)

Thanks in advance! I've only been on this site a few days, but have found it friendly and helpful!

  • Weight Watcher Scale
I am not apart of the weight watchers group, but I do have a weight watchers scale... the most precise one I have ever had! You can get them at like Costco, or even Sam's Club. So as far as weighing You..... I would definetely recommend getting one! Have a good one
  • They sell the weight watchers scale at Lowe's too! I don't have that one, but it's a good one from what I have heard.
  • What kind of price range should a person expect to pay for a good digital personal scale?

I, too, am going to be buying one.
  • Oooh, good question moto. I forgot to ask that. (Good idea about the hand weights too, I forgot to say that before. Did you feel odd carrying them around? I wasn't sure what you meant.)

  • The weight watchers one I got from Costco was 20 bucks
  • The prices for a scale will vary from $10 to $100, depending on how many bells and whistles it has.

I also have a Weight Watchers scale, and it is the $50 model. I LOVE it. Here is what I love about it:

    ~Digital
    ~The digital numbers are LARGE
~It calculates your BMI (body mass index)
~It calculates your body fat %
~It calculates your body fat, not just in percentage, but in POUNDS.
    ~It calculates your bone mass
    ~It calculates your hydration level
  • I had NO idea there were scales that could do all that and would never have thought to ask about all those features. Thanks very much for the info.

Anyone have advice about scales for food? I think it should be digital and do both ounches/grams, but that's all I've thought of.

    thanks again, helpful people!

  • I have a Tanita digital scale that I LOVE! I was using a digital Taylor scale before and if you stepped on it 3 times in a row it gave you 3 different readings - totally frustrating! The Tanita has been great - same reading all 3 times in a row. It has all of those functions that measure hydration, body fat, etc, but I don't use them. I think it was $50 - I definitely recommend it.
  • I have the weight watchers scale from Walmart, cost $25 or so, it is very nice, I have had it 18 months and LOVE it!
  • I went to Lowe's today; they have 3 levels of scales from WW; the one that does BMI and body fat etc is now about $75, so I went for the slightly cheaper one ($45) which is digital, tracks your weight for 5 weigh-ins, and can remember 4 different users (pretty good; I think it does everything I need). Also at a cooking store I found German-made digital food scales that do grams/ounces and have the "add ingredients" feature, also about $45. Thanks for the shopping advice, chicks : )
