Very confused about portions, etc...

  • Hi everyone,

I'm a long time lurker, this is my first post. I have quite a bit of baby weight to lose and I've decided to try the Fat Smash Diet.

I've read the book and I'm confused about a few things. Portion size. This doesn't seem to be set in stone. And the list of foods that you can eat, such as 2 cups of skim milk/low fat a day and 4 egg whites. Are these required amounts or are these just limits (such as no more than 4 egg whites a day).

I also looked this diet up on other forums and someone stated that the oatmeal can't be instant oatmeal, neither can the brown rice, and the yogurt has to be plain. Is this true?

Thank you in advance for any information you can give me.

  • Hi Trish! I've been following the Extreme Fat Smash menu plans, but I'm guessing the ambiguity with portion size is the same...

I would guess the guidelines are for no-more-than rather than required amounts per day.

Instant oatmeal and brown rice are stripped of some of their fiber in order to make them cook more quickly, so they aren't as good for you as rolled oats, steel cut oats, and regular brown rice. What I like to do is make steel cut oats in the crock pot. It takes about eight hours, so I do it overnight and it's ready for me in the morning. I use 4 cups of water plus 0.5 cup of either skim milk or fat free half and half to 1 cup of steel cut oats. Then I usually throw in about a cup of dried fruit (crasins, cherries, raisins, apples, etc.). Sprinkle on some cinnamon and splash in a little vanilla extract and set that puppy on low. For brown rice, I cook up a couple servings at a time and then refrigerate what's left over so I can heat it up quickly in the microwave for the next bunch of meals. I really prefer the taste of brown rice over white.

Plain yogurt doesn't have any added sugar. I like to mix mine with about a half cup of frozen blueberries, some cinnamon, a splash of vanilla, and either some sugar-free coffee syrup (hazelnut or caramel are really good) or a squirt of agave nectar.

    Hope that helps!

  • Very nice advice. Mostly with the flavor. Any ideas are great valuable info. I have been on the Extreme Fat Smash for about 1 month and 1 wk and lost 18 pounds. I will honestly say I substituted my salad on the 3rd meal and bumped it up to a chicken salad at meal 4 at times and ate my veggies or beans in meal 3 instead. It worked out better. I am on cycle 3 second rotation. next wk i will start all over again and this time not switch well try not to switch around the meals but I did lose weight. I am figuring something went well. What do you ladies think. And keep up the good work. God Bless.
