Hi Newbie here!

  • Hey!

My name is Susan and I am 48 and so glad I found this site! I am a grandmother of two wonderful grandchildren. I was searching on the web about low fat diets and saw this site.
I have lost and gained so much weight in my lifetime. My metabolism is so messed up. I have not weighed. I am really scared. I wear a 18W. I have been on a low fat diet for a week and a half. I have started to walk. It's so hard the older I have gotten. I am huge in my stomach. I am apple shaped. Anyone been on the low fat diet? Please any advice. Sometimes I feel I have gone to far and gotten to old and fat to lose any weight. Anyways, just wanted to say hi and nice to meet all of you!

    Take care!
    Susan
  • Welcome Susan! I'm so glad you found this site. I love it!
You are only 48, and that's not old. 78 is old
I hope you stick with us, and keep posting to let us know how you're doing!
  • Susan,

So glad you could join us! It's definitely not too late!

  • Hi Susan

I'm going to suggest that you DO get on a scale. Not to scare yourself, but so that you can mark some of your progress. Or at the very least take some measurements, so that you can compare later on!

There are many types of lower fat diets. Are you counting your calories? Be sure to check out the Diet Central area. You might be able to find others following a similar path.

You might also like to check out the 40-somethings forum area, if you'd like to speak with people who are closer to your age.

Way to go on starting to walk. Keep at it. Commit to it. You can do this!

    Best of success!!
  • Welcome, Susan!

Oh, my goodness, you are not too old!
I've been on a low fat diet in the past, and had good success. I've never been big on fruits and veggies, and doing the low fat thing forced me to eat more as alternatives to... well, you know the high fat foods.
Yes, keep walking! A few years ago I was at an all-time high, and found walking any distance difficult. Painful, actually. Don't stop... it gets better, and you'll be striding along in no time.

Beth, my mom is 82, and goes to the gym three times a week. She would say, "78 is NOT old!"
