Along the lines of my last "delicate" topic...careful...talking body function people!

  • Well, I have had a problem with constipation so I came here for advise... Ladies I have tried it all!

-I have been eating Activia once a day,
-taking stool softeners (tried fish oil, can't keep it down...the pills are too big),
-drinking at least 148 oz of water a day...at least a 1/3 of which is warmed water
    -added fiber theapy
-eating a little more fat then I was
    -exercise everyday

AND I still don't go more then every 3 days! I thought I was still constipated but realized this morning that perhapas it's because I have been a much more efficiant machine! I use most of what I put in my mouth for fuel and there is little left to travel the course of my insides! Takes 3 days to manage it!

I still think that the longer "things" are in there the more dry they become...I will continue to do those things I need to to help things along.

Thanks for all your help people! It's a true test of comradary if you help when the chips are down.

    buffalo chips?

  • It seems like you are doing everything right....maybe you should go to the doctor - there may be an issue that needs to be looked at or that just might be how your body works...I eat Fiber one cereal - it has 57% of daily fiber for only 1/2 cup - just add enough water during the day - which you are...maybe you are drinking too much water and not enough fiber to balance with the water - just to throw sometime out there...I would get checked out though -- I had some family members that had that issue and the doctor helped them to solve the problem....

    good luck!

    :-)
  • Well, every three days is regular. That's not bad really. Not everyone does go everyday.

Tell me more about the stool softeners and the fiber.
  • I've had good success with Miralax (take it everyday, you will see results within a couple of days for sure...well, I did. YMMV) I take it almost every day now.
  • thats so funny you ask this question...i wanted to ask this too...i too am the same way, not only do I watch my calorie intake, i make sure i get 35-38 grams a fiber a day too...i have too...so i thought, and even when I get more fibre than needed...i still only go once every 3 days...i have always been like this...always...i remember when i was 19 and i travelled to India and after 10days i still didnt go, a friend was very concerned...thought i was in pain...something wrong...i went on the 11th day...and it was fine...i was in no pain... SOOO...its been years...my husband thinks its strange too...he goes super regular 3 times a day...like by the clock...me....not at all...once every 3 days...and im not straining or anything when i pass...SO, again, i think as long as your eating the required amount of fiber and you are not in discomfort throughout ...than...maybe your body is just set this way...ive concluded...mine is! no matter what I do... : )
  • One thing I've had good luck with is rather yucky to some people, but works: heat about 6 oz prune juice to moderately warm temp and drink. For me, usually works within an hour. Good luck!

  • What helps for me is to take ground flax mixed in pure sugarless cranberry water when I get up, then later before eating breakfast I drink half a lemon in warm water... I also warm up the cranwater because I just don't like cold stuff first thing in the morning...I also take the cranwater and ground flax at night before going to bed...

For me beans, romaine lettuce or any really green leafy vegetable keep me regular...
  • a couple of orange sections work for me!! look at all these great ideas here! one of my sisters SWEARS by a cup of black coffee with caffeine. go figure!
  • I have to second the Miralax!! I went for 10 days without having a BM. I had AWFUL pains in my leftside and it actually hurt to walk around. I tried stool softeners, suppositories, magnesium....nothing worked. I was misserable.

Then I tried the Miralax as per my Dr. It worked wonderfully!!

The main reason I really like the Miralax is it DOES NOT change the flavor of the liquid you put it into. It's a powder that disolves very easily and it has NO FLAVOR...this is very important to me right now because flavors seem to turn me off...too strong etc....

So I vote Miralax and a good magazine....LOL!!!
