Nutrisystem with having to feed husband?

  • Hi everyone,

I've been looking all day at options for a diet meal delivery system. I've tried several diets in the past, but I can never seem to stick with them. I usually get tired of weighing and measuring and counting calories. I've been thinking that a delivery service was the way to go. My only problem is my husband. Lucky for him he is one of those annoyingly skinny guys that can eat anything so he doesn't need to diet. Our situation is also that he works and I stay home with our 2 year old daughter. How can this work? He'll expect dinner - I'm actually a fairly good cook. Hence my need for weight loss. Is anyone else in this same situation? What do you prepare for other family members while on the plan? By the way, I'm leaning heavily towards Nutrisystem.

    Thanks
  • My mother and I did Nutrisystem together almost 20 years ago. I was going to graduate school and living at home with my parents and two younger sisters (they were in grade school at the time). Mom made dinner pretty much as usual for Dad and the girls, though she had to get used to cooking without tasting. She always had cooked with leftovers in mind, but did more so while on Nutrisystem, so she really only cooked about every other or every third day. Some leftover days were just reheated, others were recreated (such as a roast one day and the next day shred the roast and use some of it to make beef & noodles, and the third day use some for sloppy joe sandwhiches). And usually about once a week, Dad made the meal for himself and the girls (even if it was only a fend-for-yourself night - the girls loved that, because they got to use the microwave).

If I wasn't in class, I would help. Mom and I both lost quite a bit on Nutrisystem. I won't say it was easy making and smelling food we weren't going to eat, but it worked pretty well. There was the occasional, "oh, the heck with it," nights (not every week or even every month, but usually a Sunday, when we were used to having a nice family dinner) that we just skipped our Nutrisystem meal and ate with the family. Even on Nutrisystem and other meal delivery services, you can't let yourself go nuts when you go off plan, because intentionally or not, sometimes "stuff happens."
  • I have heard of some NS members making something "similar" for their families. If you choose to eat the taco NS dinner, then make tacos that night for everyone else, etc. so that you don't feel deprived. Save the pizza dinner for a night that your family wants Pizza Hut delivered, etc.
