OMG! Overwhelmed by WW Activity plan!

  • Ok I used to exercise constantly, 1 hour a day for 2 years, 6 days a week and never missed. Then one day I just quit! That was a few years ago. I cant imagine doing that again.

Now I try to walk a couple times a week.

I read the WW Activity plan and I know they promote a gradual build up but 28 activity points a week!!! That is like 2 hours a day at a light pace. I just cant even think about doing that much!

I was thinking maybe try to move more ...walk for 40 minutes or dance or something 4 times a week and maybe some weights a few times a week.

But I really want to follow the plan.

    Thoughts?
  • 2 hours a day seems CRAZY... I think an hour a day is awesome... I don't think you should get hard on yourself as long as you're trying your best!
  • Woah woah woah! It's called "Move More" and that's what needs to be focused on. Not even reaching the maximum number of activity points.

I'm actually quite positive that there are many maintainers with WW who don't even get that much exercise. The important part is reaching a compromise with your body & with what is a healthy amount of exercise.

It's also really good that you wish to follow the WW plan as thoroughly as possible, but there may be parts of the program that you have to modify to suit your own needs. And isn't that what WW wants us to do? To make sure that we wrap WW around our lives, and not the other way around?

Honestly, forget all about the 28 activity points for now... probably even for a number of months. Just focus on what you've been doing. Walking more and moving more. You're doing great right now, and down the road you can think about increasing.

This is just like feeling overwhelmed about how much we must lose to get to goal. We cannot focus on something like that all the time. We have to break it up into smaller goals.
  • Hrm, wasn't that 28 points a maximum, not a recommended level? I can't remember and my stuff is at home. But that may ease your mind a little.

Definitely focus on what is doable for you. Don't make yourself hate what you're doing or you'll never stick with it! Do just as much as you can handle, push yourself when you're up for it, and as your endurance and strength increases you'll find you're capable of bigger and better things and will adjust accordingly. Remember the WW slogan is "Start Living" -- that's what they want us to do on this plan, live a healthy, active life, not one that's obsessed with calorie counts and heart rates. Those things you can add in later if you so choose, but the important thing right now is to just get started and get comfortable.
  • Jill,

I am sorry to ask this in this thread, but I've only posted once so it won't let me private message my question. :-(

Your message says, "I love Fat Smash Diet!" I would like to ask you about it and how you've made such amazing progress without rudely doing it in this thread. How might I do that if I can't send you a private message? Thank you SO much for any insight you might have! :-)

  • hmm 1 hour 4 days a week..you have to be really intense. I hate to say I hate intense exercise but I do.

I wish they gave more guidelines on how much cardio vs. weight training etc.

    Any thoughts on that one?
  • Listen to what most are telling you, if you really read your materials, you're supposed to start with like 1 or 2 activity pts. a week and when you're used to that, add 1 or 2 more, gradual...if you jump into major exercise you won't stick with it and the goal is long term weight management...keeping it off

start slow, you've got the rest of your life to work your way up to 28!
  • I read the book...I understand you build up but to 28 points! Thats alot. And that is the goal it gives.
  • It is a lot. But, don't forget that this build up can take years. I know that it will for me. Quite honestly, I don't know if I'll ever make it to 28 points worth of exercise in my life, but that doesn't keep me from doing what I can, and making time for a little more over the course of many, many months.
